Olympic Handball Girls - Winners Again!!!
Finally, a word of thanks to all teachers and tutors who run
Well done to the victorious P7 girls’ team who not only won
an After School activity. These activities form an integral
their section but lifted the SEELB title for Olympic
part of our aim to develop every aspect of every child in
Handball. The team consisted of:our school. We know how much the children enjoy each and

A Day of Fun
One of a number of events to mark Mrs Gough's
retirement will take place on Wednesday 11 June. This
day will be set aside as a 'Day of Fun' for all the children
(and adults!!) in the school. We are currently organising a
range of indoor and outdoor activities, visitors and shows
to entertain the children. Pupils can wear purple (Mrs
Gough's favourite colour) on the day. More details to
follow soon.

Mass in honour of Our Lady
An old Irish tradition continues on today, as we create May Altars
to honour Mary as a Mother. Children bring flowers to school to
place on the May altar and we say our Hail Mary daily.
On Thursday 29th May we will have a special Mass to show Mary how
much we love her at 10am in St Patrick’s Church. Our P4 children
will wear their First Communion clothes and take part in a Marian
Procession bringing flowers to Mary.
Just like in the beautiful hymn to Mary we will bring:
‘flowers of the rarest
Bring flowers of the fairest.
From woodlands and gardens
And hillsides and dales ……..’
We will give each child a flower from our school grounds as Mary
doesn’t expect fancy bouquets but simple wild flowers.
Parents and families are most welcome to join us. Unfortunately we
will have to wait until nearer the time to hear the weather forecast.
We will text you if we are beaten by the weather as has happened in
the past.
Celebrating 36 years as a teacher
You are hardly surprised to learn that Mrs Gough
wants to celebrate with children and parents, ‘my life
in education’.
Like you, I have such wonderful
memories of two schools and I want to leave with
memories of my last term in St Joseph’s having
brought fun to the children through a ‘Fun Day’ on
Wednesday 11th June and a fun evening on Saturday
21st June for parents.
Thanks to the staff who are organising the fun day
activities, which sound so exciting for the children and
no doubt they will hear all about it over the next few
weeks from Mrs Fleming.
Saturday 21st June in The Europa Hotel in Belfast is a
chance to come together as a school community to
share a meal, a wee drink and a dance!
The school community has always been so important to
me, as you know – we take the whole family on board
when your child joins St Joseph’s. If you haven’t
decided to go but could be persuaded, please contact
Mrs Fleming through Reception and she will get you
organised with a table, so don’t think you will be sitting
on your own or it’s too late to go.
Once again can I remind parents that your donations to
Trocaire are my present from you which have made me
so proud. Please do not even think about any further
presents please!
First Communion
Thank you to the PTA for the lovely spread which they
arranged and served to our P4 families. It was so very
much appreciated. First Communion photos can be
viewed on our website.
My Fair Lady
Public Performance of this Classical Musical
Thursday 29th May 2014 at 7.30pm
Tickets at £3 available at Reception
Come along and enjoy an evening with our talented
P7 classes
Sports Days
We have planned 3 Sports Days but as always these rely on dry
weather. We will keep parents posted by text message if
there are any changes to the proposed dates in June.
Primary 1 Parents Please Note…….
On Wednesday 18th June the current P1 classes will go
home at 12 noon as we need to set up for the new P1
children who visit from 1pm-3pm on this day.
Returning Clothes after ‘little accidents’
If staff change your child could you wash and return the
clothes the next day as our stock has disappeared but
‘little accidents’ continue!! Thank you for thing of others.
Cool Kids Summer School
Please request information if you wish your child to
attend at any time during July and August 8am-5.30pm,
8am-12.30pm or 12.30-5.30pm. It is really important
that you book, as staffing is arranged by the numbers
attending daily.
PTA Notice
Can all members who have not left their details at
reception please do so as soon as possible so that our
application for Charity Status can be processed. Frances
Jennings sent an email about this matter a few weeks ago
if you would prefer to reply via email.
Text Books
At this time of year we ask parents to do a book
hunt and return any reading books, English or
Maths books. We buy these books in sets and if one or
two go missing, children are deprived of using that
particular book in the set. Please send any books in
with your child.
Remember
School is closed Monday 26th May.
