Course Description:
This course is a brief survey of the social, political, and cultural history of the
United States with special emphasis on institution and events which transformed
America from a war torn country to the most powerful country in the world.
Description of Course activities:
The class will consist of class lectures, book reviews (oral and written) presentation,
test, and a historical paper. Students are required to participate in all activities or
your grade will reflect it.
Course Objectives;
Upon Completion of this course you will be able to
1. Explain the reconstruction era hopes and failures
2. Describe the Foundation of American Industrialization and the development
of America big business
3. Describe the conflict between Native American and Manifest Destiny
4. Explain the roles that African American, Native American, Women,
Hispanics and other minorities contributed to the story of American History.
5. Understand the United States and it’s interventions in World Wars
6. The great depression and the new Deal
7. The Kennedy-Johnson years, The Civil Rights era and in our times
History 1302 will cover the following materials:
1. The reconstruction Era
2. The rise of industrialization
3. The development of the west
4. The United States and World War
5. The Roaring Twenties
6. The Great Depression and the New Deal
7. The Regan, Bush and Clinton Presidencies
Course Requirements:
There will be four sectional test and a final exam, a historical research paper and
two extra credit papers. If all assignment are completed the lowest grade will be
dropped from average.
Grading scale
90-100=A
80-89 =B
75-79 =C
70-74 =D
00-69 =F
