Virginia Technology Student Association Participates in National Conference
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Petersburg, Virginia – 507 Virginia Technology Student Association members and their instructors
attended the National TSA conference at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center in
Washington DC, June 27 – July 1 along with 6800 TSA members from across the United States and
Germany. Students participated in a variety of Leadership Development workshops, Association
Business sessions and competed in 70 competitive events involving Leadership & Technology
activities. Virginia TSA & TEAMS (Test of Engineering Aptitude, Math & Science), chapters
accumulated 108 top ten finalists including 9 First place, 11 Second place and 13 Third place finishers.
The Technology Student Association is the only student organization devoted exclusively to the
needs of students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). TSA
chapters take the study of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) beyond the
classroom and give students the chance to pursue academic challenges among friends with similar
goals and interests.
During the conference Virginia TSA was recognized for having the largest number of TSA chapters
nationally. Virginia currently has 199 Middle & High School chapters.
Kurtis Gross, a two time Virginia TSA state officer from Abingdon High School, ran a unsuccessful
campaign to be elected as National TSA Reporter. It took several runoff ballots to determine the
eventual winner.
