Pathway Completer Booklet
What is a Pathway?
The Utah Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance Program supports students’
career exploration and planning throughout their secondary school experience,
and facilitate the transition to post secondary education and career opportunities.
Your student has opportunities during their CCR to take formal assessments to
help him or her better understand his or her unique set of interests, talents and
values.
For those students who are accustomed to mapping out a plan to achieve a
goal, choosing a Pathway is simply a part of the planning process. Each Pathway
guides students to the school courses and post-secondary options most relevant
to their education and career goals. Please be aware that you are not locked into
a pathway if you change your mind about your career goal. Pathways are simply a
road map to courses that will help you be qualified to take the next step towards
your goals.
Career and Technical Education has Career Pathways within eight areas of
study. Each Pathway is structured so you can investigate a wide range of career
choices. Pathways make it easier for you to understand the relevance of required
courses and help you choose elective courses more wisely.
More information can be found at the following website:
www.utahcte.org
CTE Areas of Study:
Agricultural Education
Business Education
Family and Consumer Sciences Education
Health Science Education
Information Technology Education
Marketing Education
Skilled and Technical Sciences Education
Technology and Engineering Education
PATHWAY COMPLETION
Objective: To reward students who have completed a state pathway
concentration in their chosen CTE course of study.
Upon graduation, those students who have earned a state pathway concentration
will be recognized at graduation with a medallion.
Basic requirements for state recognized pathway concentration
 Complete total credits required for students' chosen pathway area.
 Student must complete all high school graduation requirements in order to
earn a pathway.
 Student cannot have a grade lower then a "B-" in any of the courses in the
pathway area.
 Student must maintain an overall cumulative GPA of 2.0
 In order to be considered to be a pathway completer you must submit your
application at the time you decide to begin a pathway.
 In order to be considered eligible to wear a medallion at graduation you
must submit transcript, class schedule, and a copy of your application to
the Board for review before the end of third term of your senior year.
Criteria: Requirements for each pathway are listed on the following pages.
Students will be required to declare their interest in earning a pathway, and their
progress will be tracked by a board which will consist of their Pathway Advisor,
Work Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator, and their Counselor. The board will
review their class schedule to reflect the courses that they will need to earn their
pathway concentration.
Application Process: Students interested in being a Pathway Concentrator will
need to complete the application process and submit the application to the WBL
Coordinator. It is preferred that the application be completed by the end of the
student’s 9th grade year, however applications will be accepted until the 3rd term
of a student’s Senior year.
