Geometry Chap 11 Cone Hat Project A and B Class Due Friday 1/9/15
This Project Counts for 1/3 of the Chapter 11 Test Grade.
The end result will be a custom fit and custom decorated cone hat
accompanied by this work sheet with all measurements and work shown.
NOTE: There are 2 different radii in this project.
Radius A of the semi-circle you cut out becomes the Slant Height of the
cone.
Radius B of the base of the cone is calculated from the circumference of
your head.
1) Use a string, tape measure (head-phone chord) and a ruler to measure the
circumference of your head in cm.
Head Circumference + 5cm = Circumference of base of hat =______
2) Decide on a reasonable slant height. (25 -31 cm )
Slant height (partially determined by the size of the paper)

3) The slant height for the hat = the Radius A of the semi-circle you will cut
out of paper to make the hat.
4) Draw and cut out the semi-circle.
5) Overlap the edges of the semi-circle to make a cone that will fit your
head. Tape or staple the cone so it keeps its shape.
6) Re-measure the circumference of the base of the cone and record on the
next blank. Us this in your calculations below.

7) Use C = 2p r to calculate the Radius B (SOLVE FOR r) of the base of the
cone.
