ADAM elevates its sporty pedigree with successful rallye racing and ‘S’ model
Rüsselsheim/Cascais. The Opel ADAM family has quickly established itself as a bestseller
in the lifestyle mini segment with sales of 125,000 since its market launch in early 2013.
When the new Opel ADAM S drives off the assembly lines in Eisenach, Germany, another
star will be born to continue the model’s success. It will cater for clients who want a sporty
drive in an agile, mini car of just 3.71 meters length and enjoy escaping the city jungle for a
swift outing on winding country roads. The new ADAM S definitely has all the credentials.
The punchy and seductive pocket rocket has been equipped with a new, highly responsive
110 kW/150 hp, 1.4-liter Turbo ECOTEC engine, a specially tuned sport chassis, direct
sporty steering, high performance OPC braking system and an ESP system that can be
deactivated. It offers a muscular and smartly aggressive exterior design, an interior with
premium ambience and cool racing accents, countless individualization options, superb
digital connectivity and numerous comfort and safety systems including Opel’s awardwinning Side Blind Spot Alert.
The sporty ‘S’ version comes to the market as an extremely successful rallye-racing
season for the ADAM ends. Its R2 rallye version won its category in all major national
championships it took part in – in Germany, France and Spain – and, in France, led its pilot
Charlotte Berton to the title of overall women’s champion. Less extreme and more

polished, the ADAM S is not a racing car - but it offers great performance, intense feelings
and bundles of fun.
“The ADAM S has been designed for people who want to enjoy a sporty driving experience
in a car with a unique and individual look. Our engineers have given it the right technology
to support that and our designers have prepared hundreds of cool and colorful
customization options. I am confident that the latest addition to the ADAM family will be just
as successful as its siblings,” said Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann.
Lively performance no matter what the road
The ADAM S comes with a new 1.4-liter Turbo ECOTEC engine with 110 kW/150 hp and
220 Nm of torque on tap, which delivers a specific output exceeding 100 hp/liter. When
configuring the engine, engineers specifically decided to optimize its responsiveness for
great driving fun on winding country roads. Thus, the new turbocharged engine impresses
with outstanding punch in 2nd and 3rd gear and a torque plateau tailor-made for a spirited
style of driving. It is fitted with a short ratio 6-speed gearbox. Accelerations are those of a
small sporty car – 100 km/h are reached in 8.5 seconds – but ADAM S mainly impresses
with great elasticity: it makes the transition for 80 to 120 km/h in 5th gear in just 7.9
seconds. Top speed is 210 km/h.
ADAM S’ new engine meets strict Euro 6 emission standards and is fitted with Start/Stop
technology as standard. The dual cam phasing allows for continuously variable valve
timing and a turbocharger integrated within the exhaust manifold reduces weight and
delivers compact packaging. Numerous weight-saving features include a cast iron block
with a hollow frame structure, hollow-cast camshafts and a plastic intake manifold. In this
arrangement, the sportsman of the ADAM family makes do with a mere 5.9 liters of
gasoline per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle (139 g/km CO2).
Stylish: Opel design philosophy and premium-inspired ambience
Designers of the new ADAM S have combined bold, muscular proportions and a dynamic
silhouette with precise details which characterize Opel’s award-winning design philosophy.
ADAM S is firmly planted on the road with wide front and rear tracks (1,472 and 1,464 mm

respectively) that give it a lot of presence when static – and better stability when driving.
Like all ADAM models, the S has typically sculpted Opel design cues on its flanks such as
the ‘blade’ in the lower door and the characteristic crisp ‘shock wave’ around the door
handles. ADAM S’ special sportswear is composed of a front lip spoiler, side sill moldings,
an extended rear bumper cut-out with a visible, bold exhaust tailpipe and a unique rear
spoiler planted on the roof. Bright, wing-shaped LED daytime running lights in the front are
echoed in the rear by sharp, wing-shaped red LED modules.
To enable everybody to customize the looks of their own ADAM S according to their own
taste, there is a total of ten body paint choices – ranging from ‘Saturday White Fever’ to ‘I’ll
be Black’ via the more extroverted ‘James Blond’ yellow – that can be combined with five
roof colors including the new, vibrant, ADAM S exclusive ‘Red ‘n’ Roll’. Those who want an
even more impressive entry can individualize the roof and bodywork with additional special
‘S’ graphics.
The ADAM S’ high-quality cabin is stylish, reflects the car’s sporty genes and offers a
premium-inspired ambience in a remarkably spacious front-row environment. It has
sculpted, harmonious surfaces and graceful flowing lines just like its ADAM stable-mates.
The optional IntelliLink infotainment system’s 7-inch color touchscreen is ideally located
on the center stack, between driver and front passenger. Opel’s award-winning
infotainment system offers optimum connectivity opportunities. It is compatible with Apple
and Android devices and makes the ADAM the best connected car in its segment. The
driver can use apps like BringGo for navigation, as well as Stitcher and TuneIn for
worldwide radio and podcast reception. The integration of Apple iOS devices within
IntelliLink enables Siri Eyes Free voice control. Furthermore, DAB/DAB+ are also
available as an option.
Award-winning Opel technology
ADAM S can be fitted with Advanced Park Assist to cope with urban conditions better. At
speeds below 30 km/h, the system identifies suitable parking spaces and automatically
parks the vehicle, without the driver touching the wheel. The ultrasonic sensor-based
system measures parallel or perpendicular parking spots, calculates the vehicle’s trajectory

and automatically steers the ADAM S into a suitable space. The driver just controls
acceleration, deceleration and gear shifting.
Advanced Park Assist always comes with Side Blind Spot Alert, which recently received
the Euro NCAP Advanced reward for advanced safety technology. It uses the ultrasonic
sensors to warn the driver of an imminent collision when changing lanes. If the electronic
guardians pick up an object on collision course, a LED warning appears in the relevant
exterior door mirror. Side Blind Spot Alert works in speeds ranging from 11 km/h to 140
km/h.

Elsewhere, further elements of the stylish ADAM have also left a lasting impression. Ever
since its launch, the Opel ADAM has been collecting prizes on a national and international
level. Amongst others, it won the Golden Steering Wheel in various countries. For its
quality, design, innovation and individualization it won numerous Plus X Awards in 2013
and 2014 and the red dot design award. Furthermore, Schwacke crowned it Value
Champion 2014 in its class because of its percentage of residual value.
