59th Turkish National Pediatric Congress
November 4-8, 2015, Antalya, TURKEY
The 59th Turkish National Pediatric Congress was held at Sueno Deluxe Hotel and Convention
Center in Belek, Antalya, Turkey between 4-8 November 2015 in conjunction with the 14th
National Pediatric Nurses Congress and 3rd Italian – Turkish – Iranian Pediatric Meeting.
What makes this year’s congress important was that it was dedicated to commemorate the
founder of the Turkish National Pediatric Society (TNPS) Prof.Dr. İhsan Doğramacı on his
100th birthday.
At the Opening Ceremony of the Congress participants were welcomed by the President of
the Turkish National Pediatric Society Dr. Feyza Darendeliler. She presented information
about this years congress and the activities of the Turkish National Pediatric Society in the
last year. President of the Congress and the Secretary General of the Turkish National
Pediatric Society, Prof.Dr. Enver Hasanoğlu, made a presentation on Prof. Doğramacı’s life
and achievements. Prof.Dr. Şinasi Özsoylu, one of the first residents who worked with Prof.
Doğramacı, Prof.Dr. Mithat Çoruh who worked with him as vice president of the Hacettepe
University and Prof.Dr. Namık Çevik as his close companion on the first days of Hacettepe
University shared their memories and feelings how wonderful it was to work with him. Prof.
Dr. Luey Nouri from Baghdad University, a close friend of Dr. Doğramacı expressed his
feelings and talked on Dr. Doğramacı’s contribution to the child health on all over the world

İhsan Doğramacı Publication Awards which had been announced to be given to the
researchers of first three publications in the last two years with greater impact to the child
health, presented to the winners at the opening ceremony.
Representatives of the Italian Pediatric Society, Dr. Salvatore Vendemmia, and Iranian
Pediatric Society, Dr. Gholamreza Khatami addressed the participants of the congress and
expressed their gratitude especially for Dr. Doğramacı and those who work to protect and
enhance child health all over the world.
The keynote speaker of the congress was Prof.Dr. Kerim Munir from Harvard University. He
gave a lecture on Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
Almost 1600 participants of all three congresses attended plenary and concurrent sessions,
satellite meetings, workshops, poster discussions and oral presentations as well as
interactive sessions and meetings with experts. More than 250 speakers and lecturers
shared their experiences with participants in more than 50 sessions during these four days.
Especially, the 3rd Italian-Turkish-Iranian Meeting helped to build bridges across the pediatric
communities of these three countries.
Furthermore, four other courses were done prior and paralel to the 59th Turkish National
Pediatric Congress on; pediatric emergency and intensive care, neonatal ventilation,
pediatric nutrition and assesment of child development.
Participants shared experience and research results with each other in different fields of
pediatrics including child rights, growth, development, feeding, vaccination, ressuscitation,
infections, sepsis, obesity, epilepsies, skeletal dysplasias, diseases of gastrointestinal,
urinary, pulmonary systems, management of critically ill child from neonatal period to
adolesence.
Special emphasis was given on the common problems of childhood and the effects of
disasters and wars on children. Situation of Syrian refugee children and efforts of Republic of
Turkey to help them were presented by the representative of Ministry Health of Turkey.
The results of a workshop that had been carried out before with the participation of 15
pediatric residents form different universities and research and education hospitals were
shared in an interactive session by four representatives of residents. Speakers presented
most common problems of the pediatric residents and their suggestions and
recommendations for the solution of these problems in the main areas of education,
research and working conditions. The audience made valuable contribution. The session was
found fruitful by the participants.
TNPS Executive Board Members and the representatives of regional offices of TNPS gathered
for an extended Board Meeting. The activities of the regional offices were shared and
information provided regarding the upcoming events.
Participants enjoyed the social program of the congress as well. Performance of the ENBE
orchestra, and the concert of well known singers Göksel and Altay helped participants have
wonderful evenings in the beatiful city of Antalya.
At the Gala Diner of the congress, best oral presentation awards for three young scientists,
Dr. Enver Hasanoğlu Oral Presentation Award for one scientist, Norman Group of Pediatric
and Neonatal Nephrourology Oral Presentation Award for one scientist, best poster
presentation award for one scientist and awards for the most successful three of The
Congress Exam were presented to the winners. Total amount of awards distributed during
this meeting reached to 40.000 TL.

As a result, 59th Turkish National Pediatric Congress, along with the participants of two other
meetings, gathered 1600 pediatricians where colleagues found the opportunity to interact,
share experience, establish new relationships and collaborate. We hope the meeting was
fruitful for all participants and helped our goal to provide a better health care and a better
future for our children.
