Scheme Structure
Dairy Pro is a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) scheme established to recognise
and promote professionalism with the dairy industry.
An individual can highlight their personal development record when applying for a job and
farmers can use this record to enhance their reputation with potential customers.
Entry Qualification
Dairy Pro is open to all individuals who are employed directly on farm, working within the
dairy industry or studying at college with ambition to enter the world of dairying.
Categories of membership:

Student - New entrants to the industry with less than 12 months experience or a
student of agriculture (or related subject)

Member - Dairy farmer or worker employed directly within the Dairy industry for
greater than 12 months

Associate - Distributor / Trade, Manager, Consultant, other interested parties.

Members will receive a photo ID card and a unique membership number which should be
used when registering attendance at Dairy Pro approved events.
Membership Guidelines
In order to maintain membership of Dairy Pro, an individual must demonstrate maintenance
of competence by Professional Development to an agreed standard. The standard is
measured by a points system, points being gained by attendance at approved courses,
training events and skills developed.

Members are required to accrue Dairy Pro points which will be assessed biennially

Points requirements will vary according to the category under which the member is
registered, up to a maximum requirement of 40 points over a 2-year period

The points rating system will be continually monitored in the light of experience
gained
5.
Members are advised to achieve the point’s requirement from a breadth of activity;
in particular it should include items related to changes in legislation, safety and
environmental awareness
Points should not be accrued solely from one type of training activity

Event pointing rules:




Participative events may attract 2 points per hour of training/learning activity
Non-participative events may attract 1 point per hour of training/learning activity
Participative training is not possible if the attendance at the event exceeds 10
individuals
A full training day is taken as 6 hours maximum to allow for lunchtime, and
tea/coffee breaks during the day
Type of activity



Advanced Technical activity covers where technically proficient beneficiaries are
seeking to upgrade and improve their skills to become more efficient in their
workplace situation. Maintaining skills is not viewed as advancement.
Management activity covers where managers are seeking to gain managerial skills
which will improve the productivity, efficiency and quality of the workplace
environment under their responsibility. Advanced technicians wishing to move into
supervisory and management positions is also eligible under this band.
Advanced Management activity covers where experienced managers are wishing to
gain vision and skills to further improve the productivity, efficiency and quality of the
workplace environment under their responsibility. It will also cover activity which
enables experienced managers to transfer their skills into related areas to enable
their sectors and the wider industry to benefit.

Event Auditing
Auditing of Events Qualifying for CPD Points:



Signed attendance list required after each event
Telephone / e-mail checks to discuss course content with some of those attending an
event
Representatives of Dairy Pro will attend a number of selected events each year

Secure login area
Members of Dairy Pro will have access to a secure area on the Dairy Pro website.
Member statement
Once logged in, members will be able to request an up to date training record which will be
automatically e-mailed directly to the member in a pdf file format. E-mail is the preferred
method of sending training records because it is instant and can be sent securely to the
members personal e-mail address.
By prior agreement nominated directors of companies may be given access to their
employees CPD record, or be supplied with a report stating current CPD status for all
employees upon request.
Online payment
Membership fees will be invoiced electronically and payable in the secure area of the
website. All transactions are on a secure web server.

Dairy Pro has a bespoke web interface www.dairypro.co.uk which has an online application
form and payment facility and a secure member’s login area.
