THE HOLINESS OF GOD REQUIRES OUR HOLINESS.
Isaiah 6:1-8
INTRODUCTION:
1. There is no evil in God’s feelings, purposes, or actions. Because of His holy character, He is against all
iniquity. He truly loves the sinner, but He despises sin. The heavenly Father’s holiness is revealed not only
in His moral purity, but also in His separateness from all evil. Because of His righteous character, He
cannot tolerate or ignore sin Romans 6:23.
2. For understand the difficulty of how to live a holy life, we must first understand what holy means. To be
holy means to be set apart or separate from sin and evil. God is completely holy, separate from everything
that is evil. God calls us to be holy, just as He is, but it is important to understand that apart from God this
is impossible. We have the Holy Spirit filling us with His holiness.
3. Only faith in the Lord Jesus bridges the gap between holy God and sinful man. The Son of God, having
lived a perfect life, died to pay our sin debit in full and provide a way for each of us to have a relationship
with righteous God.
4. The Prophet Isaiah had a vision of the Lord’s moral purity and holiness. When he saw God seated on a
throne in all His glorious splendor, he cried out, “Woe is me, for I am ruined!” (v. 5). A vision of divine
perfection make happen the prophet Isaiah to recognize the depths of his own sinful condition and to
acknowledge the holiness of God. Apostle Peter had a similar reaction when he was in the presence of the
Lord. After the Lord made a miracle filling the nets with fishes, he “fell down at Lord Jesus’ feet, saying,
‘Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man!’” Luke 5:8.
BIG IDEA: LIVING A HOLY LIFE IS A COMPLETE SURRENDER TO GOD.
I.
LIVING A HOLY LIFE IS A COMPLETE SURRENDER TO GOD BECAUSE HE IS LOOKING FOR
FAITHFUL FOLLOWERS.
A. God call us to give our lives in sacrifice because He redeemed us from spiritual darkness and
adopted us as children. Apostle Paul explains salvation, successful Christian living. In
Romans 12:1-2, he request believers to give control of their lives to God in graceful of all He
has done for us. As God's people, we no longer have the right to lead our own lives, but He
still allows us to choose whether or not to surrender.
B. We are not trying to live a holy life in order to receive salvation; living a holy life is a result of
being saved by God's grace and filled with the Holy Spirit. It is also important to not give up
when we mess up. Romans 8:1 says, "There is now no condemnation for those who live in
union with Christ Jesus." The grace of God doesn't go away when we make mistakes.
C. The Grace of God works in us, 2 Corinthians 3:18; 1 John 3:2. The promise of being fully like
the Lord in the future is a motivation to be faithful for becoming more like Him now. As
believers, we must to be different from the world. Our goal should be to act as the Lord Jesus
did: forgiving, loving, and helping others, yet knowing when to speak the truth in love or share
our faith.
II.
LIVING A HOLY LIFE IS A COMPLETE SURRENDER TO GOD FOR NOT BASE OUR VALUES ON
POPULAR OPINION.
A. We are ambassadors of Christ to a lost world, and we must always act with love toward
others. People who have rejected the Lord Jesus can act as if we are trying to force them to
believe in him. And Christians living in rebellion against God can become uncomfortable in
around which remain in Jesus can even ignore the advice of believers.
B. Those who live godly lives will face a conflict with the world. Pressure from the world
sometimes makes believers compromise their convictions. Christians sometimes justify
compromise the truth. They say they are being a witness by spending time with unbeliever’s
friends, even when that involves taking sinful choices.
C. We can live a holy life by being obedient to God. Knowing and obeying the Word of God is the
key John 17:17. When we live in obedience to God, we are staying separate from evil. We are
offering our bodies as living sacrifices to God. Living a holy life of obedience to God is living in
true freedom from the burden of sin.
D. According to John 3:30 John the Baptist said the natural consequence of knowing and
obeying God is that He becomes greater, while we become less and less as we yield control
of our lives to God. So the Christian grows to reflect more of Christ and less of his own nature.
In Ephesians 4:14-16 Paul encourages us to be believers of conviction.
III.
LIVING A HLY LIFE IS A COMPLETE SURRENDER TO GOD FOR BE MORE LIKE CHRIST.
A. It is important to understand that becoming more like the Lord Jesus starts by receiving Him
as Savior. Then we grow in holiness by reading the Bible, studying it, and being obedient to
what it says. Only when we have entered Heaven for eternity with God does this process
reach its culmination.
B. Becoming more like the Lord Jesus involves a total self-dedication to God. We offer our
bodies as "living sacrifices," and our minds are renewed and transformed. When the Lord
Jesus said, "Follow me," Levi left his position, money immediately Mark 2:14.
C. Becoming more Christ like is the result of Christian growth. When we are first saved, we are
not fully formed in wisdom and knowledge and new in grace and love. But then we grow in
each of these things, our charge is to become stronger-and more Christ like 2 Peter 3:18.
D. Becoming more like the Lord is the result of freedom from sin. Since the Lord Jesus lived a
sinless life, God consider us "dead to sin" Romans 6:11. As we offer ourselves to God, sin is
no longer our master, and we are more clearly identified with the Lord. The Lord Jesus invites
us to follow Him, and we have His example of obedience, sacrificial love, and patient
suffering. 1 Corinthians 11:1.
