General Sheep Exhibitor Rules and Guidelines
1. Exhibitor Rules and Guidelines: All sheep exhibitors are required to abide by the Junior Fair
General and Animal Exhibitor Rules listed in the front of this book as well as the rules listed
below. THERE IS A $2.00 PER HEAD ENTRY FEE PAYABLE TO FR. CO. JR.
FAIRBOARD AND DUE NO LATER THAN JUNE 20. Please read carefully all rules and
guidelines.
2. Health Requirements: No health papers. Animals exhibited must show no symptoms or evidence
of an infectious or contagious disease. The Fair Veterinarian will inspect animals on the first
Saturday of the fair.
3. Scrapies Identification: All sheep (breeding and market) must be identified with an official USDA
Scrapie ear tag or tattoo to be shown at the Franklin County Junior Fair. It is the exhibitor's
responsibility to make sure the animals are properly tagged or tattooed with an official USDA tag or
tattoo before bringing their sheep to the fair. Any sheep without an official USDA Scrapies ear tag
or tattoo will be sent home by fair officials and not permitted to show or sell.
4. Number of Entries: Exhibitors may only show 2 animals per class.
5. Evaluation: Sheep exhibitors must bring up-to date project book (s), record book (s), and feed tag
(s) for all projects to evaluation. All sheep exhibitors must go through sheep evaluations to be
eligible to show market and/or breeding sheep.
6. Authorized Show Ring People: No parents or other adults will be allowed in the show ring at any
time. Only the exhibitors, the judge, Fair Board Members, and the designated ring-persons will be
allowed in the ring.
7. Showmanship Classes: Pre-fair Online Registration Preferred - See Department 59 - Livestock
Special Events. Showmanship Registrations accepted day of show, entries must be made ½ hr before
showmanship classes begin.
8. Outstanding Market Exhibitor: All youth exhibitors that meet the following requirements are
automatically entered in Outstanding Market Exhibitor Contest. 1. Completed Evaluation and Skill
a thon 2. Showmanship 3. Buyer Thank you Poster and 4. Live Animal Show. See Department 59 Livestock Special Events for OME contest details.
9. Livestock Promotion and Advertising Award: See Department 59 - Livestock Special Events Section 301- Livestock Promotion and Advertising Contest for entry information and contest details.
No registration required.
10. Pen Cleaning: Before leaving the fair, all exhibitors are required to clean their stalls/pens/cages and
return them to its original state by 5:00 PM on the Sunday, the day after the fair is over. This
includes those stalls and cages in Champion Row. All stalls/pens/cages will be inspected by the
Directors in Charge on that Sunday beginning at 5:00 PM.
11. Drug Use Notification Forms: Drug Use Notification Forms are required for all Market Steers,
Hogs, Lambs, Goats, Poultry and Lactating Animals. Drug Use Notification Forms must be
turned in by 7:00 PM, the first Saturday of the fair. See Jr. Livestock Sale Committee rules and
guidelines for specific details.
12. Country of Origin Labeling Affidavit (COOL): This form is required for all Market Beef (this
includes Steers, Heifers, Dairy Beef Feeders and Beef Feeders), Market Swine, Market Sheep,
Market Goats. Forms must be turned in by 7:00 PM, the first Saturday of the fair. See Jr. Fair
Livestock Sale Committee rules and guidelines for specific details.
Breeding Sheep Exhibitor Rules and Guidelines
1. Animal Requirements for Sheep Breeding: Ewes and rams must be in the possession and under
ownership of the exhibitor by June 1.
2. Registration Papers: Only sheep registered in their respective breed association will be allowed to
show in breeding classes. Department officials may check registration certificates.
3. A Breeding Livestock Project Identification Form must be completed and on file with the Junior
Fair Board by June 11, and include the Official USDA Scrapies Tag/Tattoo number.

Market Sheep Exhibitor Rules and Guidelines
Animal Requirements for Market Lambs:
1. Market lambs must be in the possession and under ownership of the exhibitor by May 1.
2. A Market Livestock Project Identification Form must be completed and on file with the
Junior Fair Board by May 11, for all Market lambs and must include the Official USDA
Scrapies tag number.
3. Market lambs cannot have shown in a breeding class.
4. Market lambs can either be ewes or wethers (no rams allowed)
5. All market lambs must meet the minimum weight of 95 lbs.
6. All market wethers must be properly castrated. Fair officials will send home market
lambs not properly castrated.
7. An official scrapies ear tag must be in all market animals. The exhibitor is responsible
for having this tag in the market lambs ear prior to coming to the fair and entering the
number on the Market Livestock Project Identification Form.
8. A single exhibitor must own lambs exhibited. Individual class entries will be split by
weight after weigh-in. Market Sheep will be weighed as normal, instead of dividing by
preset weight class, the sheep will be grouped into equal classes by weight and there will be a
maximum of 10-12 sheep per class. (Or smaller based on the number of animals showing)
The classes will be posted after weigh-in.
Slick Shorn: Exhibitors must have their entire lamb slick shorn within ten days prior to the fair, with
a goat comb or similar device, to obtain goat comb length.
Official Weigh-In: Market lambs shall be weighed once. This is the official weight for the
fair. There will be one weigh master at the weigh-in and his/her decision is final. Reference the Jr.
Fair Livestock Sale Committee rules and guidelines for additional details.
Weight Limits: Market lambs must meet the weight limits set by the Junior Fair Board to be eligible
to show and/or sell. Exhibitors with Underweight / Overweight animals must submit in writing to
the Director in Charge within 24 hrs if animal(s) will remain on the fairgrounds for the fair week or
be removed from the fairgrounds. If the animal remains on the grounds, it is the responsibility of the
exhibitor to remove the animal from the grounds, following the animals release time.
Sale Requirements: All Market Sheep will be sold through the Junior Fair Livestock Sale on the
last Saturday of the fair. Reference Jr. Fair Livestock Sale Committee rules and regulations for
additional information.
Sale Pictures: Pictures will be taken the first Saturday of the fair, before going to weigh
in. Exhibitors can provide their own photo to a sale committee member or email the photo to the sale
committee: frcolivestocksale@yahoo.com by Friday at 10AM. If an acceptable picture is not
available the animal will not sell.
