As an experienced organiser of high profile events at the NHM I believe my skills and experience would be great for the role as well as my knowledge of great London pubs which combined I hope will achieve a range of events to cater for everyone at the UKRG. Self-nominated Seconded by Tracy Heath, The Natural History Museum Eleanor Suggett, Project Administrator, Design Museum Personal statement: “I come from a practical museums and gallery background, having worked my way up from gallery floors, and now playing a part in building a new museum. My experience means that I have had the pleasure of seeing how a museum works from many angles, and appreciate the roles that everyone plays in making a museum or gallery truly work. Having been at the Design Museum for 18 months now, I have overseen a major project from the drawing board to the building site. It hasn't been an easy feat to any extent, and there is a great deal to do. But what I feel is that this is all about learning, and improving every time. I want to take everything that I am doing, and that is current, and convert it into events, debates, talks and presentations that will actually engage with current thinking, current issues that we all face. By being part of this project, perhaps I can even offer insight into things that the team I work with are facing now, turning them into conversations for the UKRG that will support what other institutions may face in the near or far future. I am interested in 'support' and how museums and organisations work together in the wider sense. As the Design Museum nears to opening in 2016, I plan to work on the Permanent Collection Display, which means loans in, collections care, project management... and a whole lot of other things. Working on all of this documentation, for a museum building which is still technically a building site, won’t be easy. What will drive me to do this though, is that whilst it's all happening, and once the doors are open, it that it will provide a sounding board of experience that the UKRG, and its members, can benefit from.” Self-nominated Seconded by Ruth Slaney, Acquisitions Assistant, National Portrait Gallery Supporting officer Sam Saward, Assistant Collection Registrar, The National Gallery Personal statement: I am a creative and dedicated registrar enthusiastic about the care, display, management and interpretation of cultural objects and our cultural heritage. I have been working at the National Gallery for three years. I am currently the Assistant Collection Registrar and have previously worked as an administration assistant for the Curatorial, Exhibitions and Registrars departments, and also as the Assistant Exhibitions Registrar. Before working at the National Gallery I completed a Masters in History of Art (Modern and Contemporary) at the Courtauld Institute on an academic scholarship funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. I also volunteered at local authority and university run galleries and wrote for art and culture publications covering modern and contemporary art and related topics. Working in a variety of roles and with diverse museum professionals has enabled me to acquire expertise in both collections management issues and in registrarial procedures. As Supporting Officer I would look forward to bringing my good cheer to UKRG committee meetings and events, and using my proven track record of promoting skills exchange to develop and maintain the excellent work of the UKRG. Self-nominated Seconded by Claire Hallinan, Senior Collection Registrar, The National Gallery Rebecca England, Exhibitions Officer, Dulwich Picture Gallery Personal statement: I am applying for the role of Supporting Officer with a view to be able to gain an understanding of how the UKRG committee is run, and to be able to support it as necessary in order to contribute towards the organisation and running of the UKRG and events. As I am at the beginning of my career, I would love the opportunity to learn more about the UKRG's inner workings, and participate in the knowledge exchange within the national and international community of registrars. I am organised, flexible, attentive and a clear communicator - able to take minutes, record information and coordinate meetings - therefore would be a valuable member of the committee. I am also sociable and friendly, and would relish the opportunity to become a greater part of the organisation and get to know the network of registrars. I look forward to the chance of getting to know you all better! I also bake...
