TERRY FOX RUN
September 28 at 12:45
Once again, La Glace School will be
participating in the annual Terry Fox
Run. Cancer seems to be becoming more
common as each year goes by. One can be
so thankful for the millions of dollars that
have been raised since 1980. Lives have
been saved. Lives have been extended. In
the year 2011 alone, the Terry Fox Run
raised 27 million dollars for cancer
research. This is phenomenal. Our tiny
community school contributed over $1200 to
that number last year! This year, our school
challenge for staff and students is to raise
$1400.00.

Welcome back to a new school year. It will
be a very busy year with the 5/6 class, but I
am looking forward to it. I will be teaching
them Language Arts, Math to Grade 5,
Science 5/6, Art 5/6 and French 5/6. I also
teach Grade 7/8 Language Arts and am the
Inclusive Education coordinator for our

Grade 6. If you have any questions or

BAND:
On Wednesday, September 26 at 7:00pm
in the cafeteria at Sexsmith Secondary
School, The Bandstand from Edmonton will
be here for you to rent or purchase a band
instrument for your child. In class, we will
be discussing the various instruments from
which they can choose. I will help them
choose an instrument that is a “right fit” for
them. The instrument choices are: flute,
clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone
and baritone.
In addition to the Bandstand being there,
some parents may be there with used
instruments to sell. The Bandstand has
mostly new instruments to rent, however,
they often have some used instruments to
rent. If you call and request a used
instrument it could be possible to pick it up at
the instrument rental night depending upon
availability. Rentals are only done with
credit cards so bring that with you. Please
call the toll free number for The Bandstand
if you want to know the purchase price of
instruments.
The school has a limited number of
instruments for rent. It is $100.00 for the
year. This is only a rental agreement for the
school year, whereas The Bandstand’s plan
is a rental or a “rent to own” program.
In the past few years many companies have
entered the business of instrument
manufacturing. Many of these instrments are
of limited quality. When these instruments
need repair, music repair stores are often
unable to repair them due to the poor
construction of the instrument. The cheapest
instrument is usually not the best buy. The
old adage is true: “you get what you pay for”.
I look forward to seeing you at the
instrumental rental night on Wednesday,
September 26, 2012.
The Bandstand’s toll free number is: 1-800661-6352.
If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact me at: 780-568-3642.
Regular Band Parent Meetings are held on
the first Monday of every month in the
staffroom at Sexsmith Secondary School.
Our next meeting will be held on October 1,
2012 @ 7:00pm.
In addition, the Annual General Meeting
will be held on Monday, November 5,
@7:00pm in the staffroom at Sexsmith
Secondary School. The election of Executive
Officers will occur at this time, so please
come out and support the Band Program by
being involved in the Executive. All
Executive Positions are open: President,
Vice-President, Phoning Committee, etc.
We need parents to attend our monthly band
meetings for your valuable input in the
program; our goal is to always be improving.
It is very important to have a strong group of
parent volunteers in order for this
organization to continue. Fundraising is a
large part of our parent involvement, making
it possible to provide the opportunity for
students to participate in a vibrant program
that can include exciting band trips.
