Each pair of students will have to research a famous Hispanic person of their choice. Once the students have finished their research, they will write up an imaginary interview they had with the person they researched in Spanish. After the students have finished writing the interview, they will present it to the class in Spanish. One student in each pair will take on the role of the interviewer and the other will take on the role of the famous Hispanic person. Introduction Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated between September 15th and October 15th. It begins on September 15th because five Latin American countries, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua celebrate the anniversary of their independence. Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16th and Chile on September 18th. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the term Hispanic refers to Spanish speaking people in the United States of any race. On July 1st, 2005, the estimated Hispanic population of the U.S. was made up of 42.7 million people which equaled 14% of the total population United States, not including the 3.9 million residents of Puerto Rico. In this WebQuest, you will research a famous Hispanic person. When you and your partner have finished your research, you will both write up an interview in Spanish and present it to the class. Task Your class will be divided into groups of two. Each pair of partners will research a famous Hispanic person from the present or the past. Once you have researched your information, you will work together to write up an interview in Spanish. Finally, you will present your interview to the class. The following information must be included in your interview: Name of Hispanic person Country of Origin Date of Birth Date of Death (if applicable) Hispanic Group (Mexican American, Cuban American, etc.) Major Accomplishments General Biography Your project will have two parts. The first part of the project is written. The interview must be typed in Spanish. If you choose to write an interview about a famous Hispanic person from the past, you will write the interview as if you, the reporter, were living during the lifetime of the person being interviewed. The first draft will be due next Tuesday via shared folder on Google Drive. After corrections have been made, it will be returned to you and your partner. Both of you will review the corrections and then type up the final draft. The project must also include a cover with at least one picture of the person you are researching on it. When you have finished writing your interview, you and your partner will be ready for the second part of the project. For this part, one person will take on the role of the interviewer and the other will take on the role of famous Hispanic person being interviewed. You will both practice your parts. Finally, you and your partner will present the interview in Spanish to the class. Be prepared to answer questions that the members of your class may have.
