and the other will take on the role of the famous Hispanic person.
Introduction
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated between September 15th and October 15th. It begins on
September 15th because five Latin American countries, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala,
Honduras and Nicaragua celebrate the anniversary of their independence. Mexico celebrates its
independence on September 16th and Chile on September 18th.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the term Hispanic refers to Spanish speaking people in the
United States of any race.
On July 1st, 2005, the estimated Hispanic population of the U.S. was made up of 42.7 million
people which equaled 14% of the total population United States, not including the 3.9 million
residents of Puerto Rico.
In this WebQuest, you will research a famous Hispanic person. When you and your partner have
finished your research, you will both write up an interview in Spanish and present it to the class.
Task
Your class will be divided into groups of two. Each pair of partners will research a famous
Hispanic person from the present or the past. Once you have researched your information, you
will work together to write up an interview in Spanish. Finally, you will present your interview
to the class.
Process
Your class will be divided into groups of two. Each pair of partners will research a famous Hispanic person
from the present or the past. Once you have researched your information, you will work together to write up
an interview in Spanish.
The following information must be included in your interview:
Name of Hispanic person
Country of Origin
Date of Birth
Date of Death (if applicable)
Hispanic Group (Mexican American, Cuban American, etc.)
Major Accomplishments
General Biography
Your project will have two parts. The first part of the project is written. The interview must be typed in
Spanish. If you choose to write an interview about a famous Hispanic person from the past, you will write the
interview as if you, the reporter, were living during the lifetime of the person being interviewed.
The first draft will be due next Tuesday via shared folder on Google Drive. After corrections have been made,
it will be returned to you and your partner. Both of you will review the corrections and then type up the final
draft. The project must also include a cover with at least one picture of the person you are researching on it.
When you have finished writing your interview, you and your partner will be ready for the second part of the
project. For this part, one person will take on the role of the interviewer and the other will take on the role of
famous Hispanic person being interviewed. You will both practice your parts. Finally, you and your partner
will present the interview in Spanish to the class. Be prepared to answer questions that the members of your
class may have.
