Name: ________________________________________ Date: _____________ Geometry- Discovering the Golden Ratio Unit 4 Transfer Task Worth: 40 Points Please choose one of the two following projects to complete. Option 1: Take a picture of yourself and create a self-portrait. Limit the photo to your face only. You MUST use the ratios below to create your self-portrait. You can also include more ratios involving facial features mentioned in the YouTube video, “Golden Ratio in the Human Body.” URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=085KSyQVb-U 1. 3. πΏππππ‘β ππ πππ’π‘β ππππ‘β πππππ π What needs to be included: 1. On a separate piece of paper, write down your actual measurements (measurements from your face) for these ratios. You will also be writing down the measurements in the photo you took of yourself. How do the ratios compare to one another? Show all work that you did to complete the ratios. 2. In your self-portrait, use your actual measurements to complete the drawing. Describe how you were able to complete your self-portrait on a separate piece of paper. For example, if you used a scale, did you use a scale to enlarge or shrink your face? How did you use all of your ratios to complete the drawing? Be as detailed as possible when describing how you completed your portrait. Be sure to include all measurements you used to make the drawing as close to your actual measurements as possible. 3. Your final project should include the photo of yourself, the self-portrait and the written explanation to questions 1 and 2, copy of rubric. Rubric: Self-portrait 20 Points Written Explanation 20 Points Calculations (Handwritten) Report (Typed) To earn full credit, student must have used at least 4 ratios to complete the drawing and included a photo of himself/herself. The ratios in the self-portrait accurately reflect the measurements found. Student was able to thoroughly explain how to use the ratios in both their face and the photo of themselves. Student is also able to use a correct scaling of their face and calculate ratios correctly. Student provided a wellwritten and detailed explanation of how they used their ratios to create their self-portrait. Option 2: Create a poster with pictures of items that contain elements of the Golden Ratio in them. This can include things in nature, elements of architecture, art, music, etc. Refer to the YouTube videos for some inspiration. “The Golden Mean” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zWivbG0RIo “Golden Ratio in the Human Body.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=085KSyQVb-U In the “Golden Mean” video, they mention how the Golden Ratio is used in architecture, interior design, web and graphic design, music, film, poetry, socioeconomics as well as our psychology/ the way we think. That gives you a total of eight categories. In your poster, you are to include at least five of the eight categories (one of which must be nature) in your poster. In each category, you are to include at least one picture of items that use the Golden Ratio. For example, if you choose interior design as one of your categories, you may include a wallpaper design that uses the spiral created by the Golden Ratio. On your poster, a short description (about one or two sentences) should be provided for each picture describing how it relates to the Golden Ratio. What Needs to Be Included: 1. Poster with 5 total items from 5 different categories (1 of which must be nature). The poster should include a short description for each of the items on the poster. 2. A written component describing why you chose the categories as well as a more detailed description of your photos in the poster. This should be about one to three pages in length. 3. A list of websites and/or books/magazines where you obtained your information. Please break down the list into categories. Example: Nature ο· ο· Encyclopedia Britannica: Article on Puppies. Yahoo: Feature story on the DNA 4. Your final project should include the poster, a written report about 1-3 pages in length, an informal bibliography/ list of sources where you obtained your information broken down by category, and the rubric. Poster Written Report 15 Points 22.5 Points (Typed) Bibliography 2.5 Points Poster has at least 5 categories that are neatly labeled and well organized with concise descriptions added. Report is well-written with student demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the Golden Ratio as well as exemplary research skills. The description of the objects is very detailed. The student demonstrated the use of multiple sources to obtain accurate information about the objects chosen. The report was well-organized and easy to follow. Student organized the bibliography into respective categories and included a title and/or URL to the information. The bibliography was well-organized and easy to follow.
