TBF Environmental Introduces VOC-compliant alternative to Mineral Spirits
SCAQMD Certifies ShiraSol™ as a Clean Air Solvent
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VANCOUVER, BC (November 18, 2015) – TBF Environmental Technology Inc., a world leader in the development of
environmentally-friendly industrial solvents, will be making three industry-changing product announcements in the
coming months. These products each have the potential to make a significant impact on the solvents industry, and
the environment as a whole.
In the first of these announcements, TBF today reported that ShiraSol, a Volatile Organic Content (VOC)-compliant
alternative to slow-evaporating conventional solvents such as mineral spirits (Stoddard Solvent, White Spirits),
Aromatic 100, Methyl Amyl Ketone (MAK), and Butyl Acetate, is now commercially available.
ShiraSol has performance characteristics similar to these solvents it is designed to replace while eliminating the
emission of VOCs and other toxic pollutants.
In its continuing efforts to improve the air quality of Southern California, the South Coast Air Quality Management
District (SCAQMD) has created a new class of Clean Air Solvents (CAS) for solvents which, among other criteria,
contain no more than 25 grams of VOC per liter of material. SCAQMD has certified ShiraSol as a Clean Air Solvent.
In addition, independent ASTM 313-91 testing has confirmed ShiraSol is VOC-compliant throughout the United
States and Canada.
`TBF has been working on an effective alternative to mineral spirits for a number of years’, said David W. Rowat,
CEO of TBF Environmental. ` ShiraSol provides companies an effective VOC-compliant solvent alternative that
allows manufacturers to meet the VOC content limits established by SCAQMD, the EPA, OTC and other air quality
regulators’, he continued.
`We are very pleased to be partnered with TBF Environmental as they continue to expand their leading line of
VOC-compliant solvents`, said Mark Riemann, VP Sales of Palmer Holland, Inc., TBF`s distributor east of the US
Rockies. `A large majority of Palmer Holland customers use either mineral spirits or one of its alternatives and the
interest level in an environmentally-friendly alternative to this group of slow evaporating solvents has been very
strong. `
` There is a strong level of interest in this product within the market we serve and feedback from customers has
been positive,’ said Ryan Yokoyama, VP Sales for Dorsett & Jackson, TBF`s distributor on the US west coast.
`Whether it’s in formulation or as a thinner or cleaner the SCAQMD certification has given my customers
confidence to move forward’, he added.
