Migrant Workers Project
I.
Elective Description
This is a volunteer or elective rotation for up to two weeks wherein residents participate in the Migrant
Worker Project which has historically been organized by the Physician Assistant Program, which is part of
the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine.
Resident physicians will personally evaluate migrant workers in the field and in their living environs.
Residents will provide clinical care and prescribe treatment as appropriate. Additionally, resident
physicians will have the opportunity to supervise PA students providing clinical care and treatment.
Resident physicians who have a GA license (not just a GA training permit) are able to individually
supervise and sign off on PA student charts and care. Residents who do not have a GA license will still
need their charts signed by a licensed physician.
The care provided is in the farming fields and in living communities of migrant workers.
II.
