(10:15-10:35/11:45-12:05)
Bible Story: Healing the Paralyzed Man • Mark 2:1-12
Gather children together and have them sit down. Then read today’s bible story below, or from
bible in the cart, which is marked. During this time you can have your assistant prepping the
activities.
Healing the Paralyzed Man • Mark 2:1-12
1 When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread
quickly that he was back home. 2 Soon the house where he was staying
was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside
the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, 3 four men arrived
carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. 4 They couldn’t bring him to Jesus
because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his
head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of
Jesus. 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child,
your sins are forgiven.”6 But some of the teachers of religious law who
were sitting there thought to themselves, 7 “What is he saying? This is
blasphemy!* Only God can forgive sins!”8 Jesus knew immediately what
they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your
hearts? 9 Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’
or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’? 10 So I will prove to you that

the Son of Man[a] has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus
turned to the paralyzed man and said, 11 “Stand up, pick up your mat,
and go home!”12 And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked
out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised
God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!”

Activity #1: Man on a mat
What You Need: Mat Activity Page, Man Activity Page, crayons, and glue sticks
What You Do:
During the activity: Give children a man figure and allow them to color them. Help the children
glue the figure onto the mat.
What You Say:
Before the activity: “Today in our story, we learned that four friends carried a man who couldn’t
walk to Jesus so that Jesus could help him. We are going to make the man on the mat so that
you can show them to your families and tell them our story.”
During the activity: (Give each child a mat and a man.) “Use your crayons to color the man and
then glue him on the mat.”
At the end of the activity: “Great job! The man needed help and his friends helped him. They
took him to Jesus because they knew that Jesus helps EVERYONE! Everyone needs Jesus!
Who do you need? (Pause.) [Bottom Line] I need Jesus!”

Activity #2: Carry Me
What You Need: Beach towels and stuffed animals (1 towel and animal for every 4 children)
What You Do:
During the activity: Divide the children into teams of four. Give each team a beach towel and an
animal. Show them how to carry the towel with the animal on top of it. Each child will hold a
corner of the towel. You can have them carry the animal from one end of the room and back or
make an obstacle course with chairs. Switch the teams around so the children get to play with
different friends. The goal is to make it around the room without dropping your animal. Continue
playing as long as the children are having fun.
What You Say:
Before the activity: “I have lots of friends for us to play with today. This is … (introduce all of the
stuffed animals). We’re going to put our friends on big beach towels and carry them around the
room. Let’s see if we can do this without dropping any of them!”
During the activity: “Now hold the corner of your towel. When I say go, I want you to go to the
end of the room, touch the wall, and come back. On your mark! Get set! Go!”
At the end of the activity: “In our Bible story today, some friends carried another one of their
friends to see Jesus. Their friend needs Jesus! I need Jesus, You need Jesus. Everyone needs
Jesus! Who do you need? (Pause.) [Bottom Line] I need Jesus!”

Make It Real: Wrap up, Prayer Time & Dismissal
(10:35-10:40/12:05-12:10)
LEADER: ““Friends are the best! Clap your hands with me if you love your friends. (Clap.) Yes!
I’m so glad God gave us friends. Today we learned that not only does Jesus have the power to
help us, but He has the power to help our friends, too! That’s awesome! I love how the friends in
our story cared so much for their friend who couldn’t walk that they carried him to Jesus. They
knew Jesus could help their friend and nothing was going to stop them from getting their friend
to Jesus.
“Our Bible verse says, ‘You are everything I need,’ Psalm 119:57. Jesus is everything our
friends need, too! Let’s practice our verse so we can tell all our friends that Jesus is everything
they need. Say it with me and do the motions.”
CHILDREN and LEADER: ‘You are (point up) everything (hands out to sides) I need’ (point
thumbs to chest), Psalm 119:57.” (Open your hands like a book.)
LEADER “Now you can tell all your friends that Jesus is everything they need. Then when they
need help, they can ask Jesus to help them, just like we do. I think we should make a list of
some friends we can tell that Jesus is all they need. So tell me, who are some of your good
friends that we can pray for.”
