Healing the Paralyzed Man • Mark 2:1-12 1 When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. 2 Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. 4 They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.”6 But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, 7 “What is he saying? This is blasphemy!* Only God can forgive sins!”8 Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? 9 Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’? 10 So I will prove to you that BASIC TRUTH: KEY QUESTION: BOTTOM LINE: MEMORY VERSE: BIBLE STORY FOCUS: Jesus wants to be my friend forever Who do you need? “I need Jesus!” “You are everything I need.” Psalm 119:57 Mark 2:1-12 Roll Hill Kids Sunday School Lesson Plan Climbers Preschool, PreK, Kinder January 11, 2015 the Son of Man[a] has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, 11 “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”12 And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. We are going to make the man on the mat so that you can show them to your families and tell them our story.” During the activity: (Give each child a mat and a man.) “Use your crayons to color the man and then glue him on the mat.” At the end of the activity: “Great job! What You Say: Before the activity: “I have lots of friends for us to play with today. This is … (introduce all of the stuffed animals). We’re going to put our friends on big beach towels and carry them around the room. Let’s see if we can do this without dropping any of them!” During the activity: “Now hold the corner of your towel. When I say go, I want you to go to the end of the room, touch the wall, and come back. On your mark! Get set! Go!” At the end of the activity: “In our Bible story today, some friends carried another one of their friends to see Jesus. Their friend needs Jesus! I need Jesus, You need Jesus. I love how the friends in our story cared so much for their friend who couldn’t walk that they carried him to Jesus. They knew Jesus could help their friend and nothing was going to stop them from getting their friend to Jesus. “Our Bible verse says, ‘You are everything I need,’ Psalm 119:57.
