COLORECTAL CANCER SCREENING
PROGRAMME: RB Nairobi
Available to WFP staff and dependents with BMIP or MICS insurance plans
RMW Wellness Division is pleased to inform that a colorectal screening programme,
supported by Allianz and reimbursed under the BMIP and MICS is now available for WFP staff
located in the Regional Bureau of Nairobi (RBN). Colorectal cancer is one of the most common
cancers in men and women. Research confirms colonoscopy as the most cost-beneficial
procedure for detecting colorectal cancer at an early stage.
The colorectal cancer screening will be offered free of charge (i.e. no reimbursement claim
necessary) to eligible participants, who are WFP staff members and to their dependents under
BMIP insurance plans, who meet one or more of the following criteria:




Aged 50 or older OR before 50 years of age with high risk factors (see below)
Family history of colorectal cancer
History of polyps or inflammatory bowel disease
History of ovarian or breast cancer
The colonoscopy should be done:

Every 10 years for those with an average risk
Earlier and more frequently, depending on medical recommendation, for those at a higher
risk (i.e. family history of colon cancer or a personal history of inflammatory bowel disease)
The colonoscopy will be performed by gastroenterologists at the Aga Khan Hospital Nairobi.
Prior to the colonoscopy:



All staff members and dependents will have a consultation with Dr Joshua Anino, UN Joint

Participants will undergo an ECG and a blood test
Upon review of the results of the ECG and blood test, participants will be given instructions
and prescriptions for the individual preparation for the colonoscopy Those wishing to
participate in this programme are invited to call Dr Anino to make an appointment.
Pre-screening consultation at UNON Medical Service and screening delivery at Aga Khan
Hospital will only be done upon PRESENTATION OF A VALID ALLIANZ MEDICAL CARD.
Staff members and dependents who wish to undergo the colonoscopy outside this
programme will be reimbursed according to the Allianz criteria for medically indicated
colorectal screening.
