University and APDesign Scholarships for Study Abroad Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 ITALY Fall and Spring: Dean’s Italian Studies Scholarship – Multiple recipients Eligibility: -Accepted to study in APDesign’s Italian Studies Program for either fall 2016 or spring 2017. Spring Only: APDesign has two competitive scholarships for the spring semester, supporting a total of four students, who will be studying in one of the Italian Studies Programs. 1. Ben Hakimian Study Abroad Scholarship -3 recipients ($4,000/ student) Eligibility: -Accepted to study in APDesign’s Italian Studies Program -US citizen who does not have dual citizenship. 2. Anderson Family Study Abroad Scholarship -1 recipient ($2,500) Eligibility: -Accepted to study in APDesign’s Italian Studies Program -Has a passion and talent for design -Demonstrated financial need (this will be determined by consulting the information available from SFA) If you are interested in being considered for any of the competitive scholarships, you must do the following: 1. Complete the Kansas State University Scholarship Application by Monday, February 1, 2016 at http://www.k-state.edu/sfa/scholarships/ and choosing the link called “Application for K-State Scholarships”. 2. Complete the FAFSA as soon as possible if you are applying for the Anderson Family Study Abroad Scholarship. 3. Complete your online Studio Abroad application by Friday, February 5, 2016. 4. Identify whether you are applying for either the Dean’s Italian Studies and/or Hakimian and/or Anderson competitive scholarships in your essay. 5 November 2015 5. Prepare an exceptional two page (maximum) essay describing how the opportunity to study in Italy will influence your academic preparation; particularly how you envision employing the knowledge and skills gained from this experience to your 5th year of study and future career. The committee would also like to know how this experience may influence your personal life. If you are applying for the Anderson or the Dean’s Italian Studies scholarships you may include additional information pertaining to financial need. **Please remember the Writing Center is available in 122D English/Counseling Services Building to assist you in writing an exceptional essay. 6. The committee will pay particular attention to the quality of the essay in terms of content, clarity, and correct use of grammar. 7. Return your essay to Becky O’Donnell, Project Coordinator, in Seaton 212 or at bodonnel@ksu.edu no later than Friday, February 5, 2016. The International Studies Committee will review all eligible submissions to determine the recipients. Recipients will receive notification from the Dean’s Office at the time all APDesign scholarship recipients are notified (Mid-May). AUSTRALIA The University anticipates providing several scholarships to support students who will be going to study at the University of Sydney or the University of Western Australia. As information about these opportunities becomes available, you will be contacted by the Office of International Programs. APDesign recommends that you complete the Kansas State University Scholarship application by Monday, February 1, 2016, if you are interested in being considered for scholarships to study at either of these two Australian Universities. THE WRITING CENTER We hope you will invest time in developing your essay. There are several resources on campus that can assist you. The Writing Center is located in 122D English/Counseling Services Building and has semester hours that can be found at http://www.k-state.edu/english/writingcenter/. In an individual consultation, you can talk about your writing project with a trained writing tutor and will be provided feedback at all stages of your writing process. This enables you to gain an awareness of writing strategies; improve academic writing assignments or non-academic writing; and increase your sense of competence, confidence, and ownership in writing.
