JEFFERSON COUNTY DRAFT HORSE ASSOCIATION SEPTEMBER 24, 2012 The meeting was called to order by President Tim Smebak at 7:05 pm. There were 15 members present and all officers. TREASURER’S REPORT The beginning balance in the checking account of $397.78 and after writing out 20 checks, three deposits the ending balance of $252.66. The saving account beginning balance of $4,385.29. After deposits, interest and transfers the ending balance of $7,453.73. There is available funds of $6,431.39 with $1,275.00 left of the grant money. A motion was made by Joan Smebak and seconded by Donna Welch to approve the report. Motion passed. SECRETARY’S REPORT A motion was made by Dick Berner and seconded by Dave Kemna to dispense with the reading of the minutes. Motion passed. OLD BUSINESS FAIR The fair was a success but the weather could have been cooler. The Jerry Hitchcock Memorial Award went to Savanna Drewek. A thank you to Steve Haase for announcing, Steve Yohn for being ring man and Jackie Schuster for recording placing and announcing. Also a big thank you to those that sponsored classes. RAFFLE We had a good year with the filly. We had a profit of $3,200.42. Tim Wroblewski was the highest bid for the filly and has her home now. A big thank you to all those that helpedi sell raffle tickets at the fair or Midwest Horse Fair and on their own. Also a thank you to Steve Yohn for her care and getting her to events and to Joan Smebak for heading the raffle. OLD WORLD WISCONSIN Threshing at Laura Ingalls-Wilder weekend at Old World Wisconsin had a good turn out. We had plenty dry bundles to thresh. Ron and Jean Luebke, Jason Yohn, Amanda Doman and Wayne and Nancy Osterhaus were present. There were 1,110 visitors there on Sunday. To all our members Brian Zaeske has retired from Old World Wisconsin and Dirk Hildebrandt is filling in until they fill the vacancy THANK YOU NOTES We received thank you notes from the Watertown Equestrian team, Johnson Creek Library and one from Marcia Haase for her mother’s memorial. The Watertown and Jefferson Equestrian teams will be competing October 6 and 7 at Jefferson County fairgrounds start time is 8 am. NEW BUSINESS AUTUMN ON THE FARM Autumn on the farm will be October 6 and 7 logging and October 13 and 14 will be plowing. This will all be in the Norwegian Village. Please let Dave Kemna (920-563-3118) knows what days you are coming and with what equipment. Dave is looking for three to four teams each day. The start times are 10 on Saturday and 11 on Sunday. SLEIGH RIDE This coming year’s sleigh ride will be January 26 at the Caldwell Hall. Please use the main entrance and start time is 10 with lunch at n on followed by a short meeting. More information to come. IDEA There was an idea brought up about a 50-50 raffle at the monthly meetings. This would help the premiums for classes at the fair. Half of the money would go to the winner and the other half to premiums. The money would be kept separate from the treasurer. The idea will be discussed at the next meeting. WISCONSIN STATE HORSE COUNCIL Marcia Haase sent an email to the officers on the meeting of the Wisconsin State Horse Council. Their event-Taking the Reins- was a success. They are planning to do it again next year but moving the date to September. They are taking donation for the feed bank and are looking into a site in Portage for the unwanted horse facility. Wayne and Nancy Osterhaus are the alternate delegates to the Wisconsin State Horse Council if Steve and Marcia Haase cannot make the meeting. CLUB EVENT A club event will be hosted by Ron and Jean Luebke at their home October 20at 11:30 The club will furnish the meat and soda. The members please bring a dish to pass.
