The committee agreed to arrange to meet and complete the process. 4. Membership Chris reminded the group that we need to formalise membership. He will bring in forms in order to achieve this. 5. Projects and Consultations We are currently involved in two projects that were initiated by the council (the communal bin scheme, and Sustrans). Iona suggested that we formulate our own action plan, and that it could be useful to begin setting our own agenda. Member of the group suggested projects: Hannah: focusing on people e.g. an event that would bring the local community together. Cecilia added that her street has successfully held barbeques which has been a good way for neighbours to get to know each other Iona: supporting already existing events such as the Heaton Arts festival Pat: focusing on gardens, planters and wildlife e.g. using wildflowers to create a beeline Eve: tidying planters and clearing litter Suzy: tackling rubbish at City Stadium, possibly installing bbq picnic tables. Pat and Nick raised additional considerations: the need for tools, gloves etc, and whether insurance would be needed. Nick suggested BTCV (need to find out new name) as an organisation who could advise us about insurance. Nick asked Cllr Stephen Powers about council plans for the City Stadium. Stephen explained the cycle paths and allotments have been the main focus recently. The cycle path is going to be widened, with a barrier added. He added that the council would find it useful to consult with us about plans or when there is funding available for local projects. Iona and Nick suggested that we use City Stadium for local events. Stephen explained that the council have approached the Ouseburn Community Centre about a summer event – we could possibly take the lead on this Robin confirmed with us that our chosen projects are: A summer fair Sustrans Tidying green spaces 6. Widening Engagement Nick explained that Sustrans are keen to have a presence at the meeting that we hold at Teasy Does It, in order to achieve a wider engagement with the public. We decided on June 25th for the meeting. Suzy suggested that it would be useful to invite Sustrans to any events that we hold. Sean added that Sustrans have made suggestions to improve green spaces, such as creating community orchards. Hannah showed the group a draft of the leaflet that she has designed to invite local residents to the meeting. The group approved of the leaflet and discussed some minor changes which will be made to the final version. We have not made a final decision about our logo. Steve suggested the Shakespeare picture used on the Facebook page, but Iona was concerned that it might be difficult to adapt as it is a detailed photo. She suggested a simpler logo, and examples from other associations were looked at. Steve offered to manage the leaflet distribution: volunteers should contact him. Hannah felt that the leaflets should be delivered no earlier than a week before the meeting in order to maintain momentum. Suzy suggested putting the event in the Hotspur School newsletter. Iona asked Stephen to provide large maps of the area to use at the meeting. 7. Funding Robin explained that now that we are further towards solidifying our plans, we can apply to Awards for All, but we still need a more prioritised list that we can start costing. Walter asked whether businesses could become members of the group. Chris felt that the constitution could be altered to allow this if we were happy with this. 8. Any Other Business Hannah asked if we were happy for minutes to be put up on Your Backyard’s website and linked to from the Facebook page. There were no objections to this. It was agreed to meet on June 18th to prepare for the Teasy Does It meeting. 9. Date and time of next meetings 6.30 18th June, Ouseburn Community Centre 6.30 25th June, Teasy Does It
