Nordenberg Leadership Scholars (NLS) Program and Outcomes August 7, 2015 FIRST YEAR Strategies Outcomes LEADERSHIP Engage in individual and cohort monthly meetings with NLS Coordinator. Complete Emerging Leaders Program in the fall semester. (Cohort) Attend campus programming at least once per semester (i.e. athletics, arts, cultural). (Cohort) Participate in Panther Leadership Summit. Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA. GLOBAL NLS participants will report that they are more aware of themselves as global citizens. Participate in DiscoverU Day during orientation. Engage in individual monthly meetings with a career coach. Complete the Strong Inventory and follow-up consultation. Write resume and have it reviewed by career coach. Attend Majors and Minors Expo. Network with employers at career fairs and other CDPA events. Participate in NLS customized Internship Prep Program in the spring semester. (Cohort) Attend NLS intern employer networking reception. EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING NLS participants will gain a stronger sense of self NLS participants will and develop an understanding of their career focus. NLS participants will report that they have improved their networking skills. NLS participants will report that they feel prepared to complete an internship. Attend Global Ties events. (Cohort) Participate in the Global Getaway program in Pittsburgh. (Cohort) NLS participants will report that they are more aware of their own personal leadership style. NLS participants will report that they understand how to apply leadership knowledge, skills and behaviors to everyday life. NLS participants will report that they feel connected to the University of Pittsburgh. CAREER PREPARATION Participate in site visit (fall) and orientation (spring) with intern site. Participate in an internship during summer after first year. Complete 30 hours of community service, record hours in NobleHour. Complete 50% of Outside the Classroom Curriculum (OCC). NLS participants will participate in an internship opportunity after their first year. NLS participants will register for NobleHour. NLS participants will register for OCC. NLS participants will complete 50% of the OCC. Nordenberg Leadership Scholars (NLS) SOPHOMORE YEAR Strategies Outcomes LEADERSHIP Engage in individual and cohort monthly meetings with NLS Coordinator. Complete the application process for a Student Affairs supported leadership position (i.e.: First Year Mentor, Emerging Leaders Program Peer Facilitator, Resident Assistant, Peer Educator, PMADD Committee, Student Civic Engagement Council, etc) Apply for the Leadership In Action component in the spring semester. (Cohort) Demonstrate leadership responsibilities in at least one SORC-certified student organization. Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA. GLOBAL Apply to become an International Outreach Committee member. Participate in International Week programming. Study Abroad option – NLS participants may opt to study abroad once during the fall or spring term of the sophomore or junior year. CAREER PREPARATION NLS participants will report they are more aware of issues facing a specific culture. Engage in individual monthly meetings with a career coach. Join at least one academic or professional student organization (i.e. DEI professional career honorary). Attend NLS intern employer networking reception. Review resume and LinkedIn profile with career coach. Network with employers at career fairs and other CDPA events. EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING NLS participants will report that they have improved their networking skills. NLS participants will report that they have gained a stronger sense of career focus as a result of attending CDPA sponsored career fairs and events. Complete 30 hours of community service and record hours in NobleHour. Complete 100% of Outside the Classroom Curriculum (OCC). Support NLS recruitment efforts upon request (i.e. interviewing, video testimonials, presentations, panels, etc.) NLS participants will report that they have refined their oral communication and facilitation techniques. NLS participants will indicate that they have developed a greater understanding of the relationship between leadership and service. NLS participants will participate in experiential learning after the sophomore year. NLS participants will report that they have gained a stronger sense of career focus as a result of completing an experiential learning opportunity. NLS participants will be inducted into the OCC Honorary after successful completion of the program. Complete the application process for a Student Affairs supported leadership position (i.e.: First Year Mentor, Emerging Leaders Program Peer Facilitator, Resident Assistant, Peer Educator, PMADD Committee.) Demonstrate leadership responsibilities in at least one SORC-certified student organization. Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA. GLOBAL Study Abroad option – NLS participants may opt to study abroad once during the fall or spring term of the sophomore or junior year. Host or participate in a campus-wide program focused on a global issue. NLS participants will indicate that they have an increased understanding of how they can utilize their leadership skills to create change. NLS participants will report an increased knowledge of how they can impact the global society. NLS participants will report that they have improved their intercultural communication skills. NLS participants will report that they have increased their cultural awareness and understanding of others. CAREER PREPARATION Engage in individual monthly meetings with a career coach. Build an effective LinkedIn account. Participate in at least one Shadow in your City event. Review resume and LinkedIn profile with career coach. Attend NLS intern employer networking reception. Network with employers at career fairs and other CDPA events. EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING Participate in a co-op, internship or research fellowship during summer after junior year. Complete 25 hours of community service and record hours in NobleHour. Support NLS recruitment efforts upon request (i.e. interviewing, video testimonials, presentations, panels, etc.) NLS participants will report that they have gained a stronger sense of career focus as a result of completing an international experiential learning opportunity. NLS participants will report that they have gained a stronger sense of career focus as a result of attending CDPA sponsored career fairs and events. NLS participants will participate in an experiential learning opportunity after their junior year. NLS participants will report that they have gained a stronger sense of career focus as a result of completing an experiential learning opportunity. Nordenberg Leadership Scholars (NLS) SENIOR YEAR Strategies Outcomes LEADERSHIP Engage in individual and cohort monthly meetings with NLS Coordinator. Apply for Hesselbein Global Academy. Participate in Senior LEAD Academy. Present at the annual Panther Leadership Summit. Demonstrate leadership responsibilities in at least one SORC-certified student organization. Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA. GLOBAL Senior project – cohort will develop a final project focused on international affairs. NLS participants will report that they advanced and enhanced their leadership skills through interaction with experienced and ethical leaders. NLS participants will report that they are prepared to work in a global society. NLS participants will indicate that the capstone project enhanced their understanding of international affairs. NLS participants will indicate that the Nordenberg Leadership Scholars developed them into a global citizen. CAREER PREPARATION Engage in individual monthly meetings with a career coach. Review resume and LinkedIn profile with career coach. Network with employers at career fairs and other CDPA events. Attend NLS intern employer networking reception. Serve as a speaker or panelist in career presentation to undergraduates. EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING Secure full-time job offer or graduate school acceptance before graduation. Complete 30 hours of community service and record hours in NobleHour. Support NLS recruitment efforts upon request (i.e. interviewing, video testimonials, presentations, panels, etc.) NLS participants will report that their career coach has helped them to prepare for their career. NLS participants will report that their alumni and professional networking connections have helped them during their career preparation. NLS participants will aspire to be offered full-time job placement or graduate school acceptance before graduation. NLS participants will graduate within 4 years, unless they desire to do additional academic work.
