EQUITANA – Equestrian Sports World Fair 14 – 22 March 2015, Exhibition Centre Essen 17 March 2015 Cutting-edge products at EQUITANA Innovation Award 2015 Award ceremony at World Fair’s Main Arena Taking home the win here – at the Equestrian World Fair, amidst the international expert community and among top-class product premieres from all segments of the industry – is quite a distinguished accomplishment. Every other year, EQUITANA and the trade magazine Pferdebetrieb jointly present the EQUITANA Innovation Award. This year, a total of 59 products were nominated; seven of them came out on top. Themes reflected particularly strongly in the award-winning products were digitalisation, automation and sustainability. The most convincing products this year were a sensor system for capturing horse exercise and health data, a feeding station, a rechargeable horse shearing device, a concentrated horse feed with amino acids, a feed weighing cart, a rider emergency management system and an innovative Hoftrac loader. A distinguished jury of experts from the world of equestrian sports, horse medicine and the trade media evaluated the submissions. The award ceremony took place at EQUITANA 2015’s Main Arena on 17 March. Category: “Stable, hall and arena construction, training technology” Winner: FourSense GmbH Product: FourSense data measuring technology Jury explanation: This sensor system can be integrated into standard girths or similar accessories. It captures a range of horse exercise and health data and transmits it to a central server. Once processed there, the data can be accessed through web interfaces. The result: optimised equestrian sports performance diagnostics, training analytics and monitoring. The jury welcomes the sophisticated, ready-to-use concept, which meets current equestrian athlete demands for comprehensive performance development capturing aided by modern measuring technology. In addition to using the system in rehabilitation and for training optimisation, the jury recommends deploying it in the growing scientific study arena, where quality depends on optimised data capturing. The jury recognises this new product because it combines several formerly separate types of feeding in a single smart solution customised for each animal. As such, not only does the system achieve feed management workload reductions, it also enhances animal wellbeing by delivering nutrition in line with the needs of each individual horse. Category: “Health and care” Winner: Aesculap Suhl Product: Aesculap Econom CL Equipe Jury explanation: Cable messes and short runtimes are a thing of the past with to the Econom CL Equipe horse shearing device. Powered by a rechargeable battery, this Aesculap Suhl model can be used for up to 80 minutes with the same power output as a comparable corded device. Thanks to the backup battery and a charging time of about 70 minutes, the Econom CL Equipe can be deployed just like conventional corded clippers without long interruptions. Category: “Nutrition” Winner: MARSTALL GmbH Product: Amino-Sport Muesli Jury explanation: Amino-Sport Muesli is a feedstuff specially developed for sport horses, but it’s equally suitable for use in breeding and/or rearing. Marstall uses five precaecally digestible amino acids in pure crystalline L-/DL form in this product. Amino-Sport Muesli has a positive impact on horse performance and accelerates muscle regeneration after training. Category: “Vehicles” Winner: Kneilmann Gerätebau e.K. Product: Large bail cart with weighing unit Jury explanation: Correctly portioning roughage and concentrated feed is critical when it comes to animalappropriate horse husbandry. Kneilmann’s feed cart with weighing unit – no matter whether it’s used for roughage or concentrated feed – makes this job easier. But since weighing out roughage is precisely the task that poses a challenge for many operations, the jury considers Kneilmann’s large bail cart with weighing unit as a product that facilitates optimised portioning of roughage at equestrian facilities. For the system to work, riders must have registered their data ahead of time. Riders alone choose which data to enter. When needed, it can then be accessed on the internet via an individual ID code. By honouring this product, the jury aims to support this important contribution to equestrian safety. It deserves to be recognised In particular for taking into account data protection aspects. Presentation of the Special Jury Award Winner: Weidemann GmbH Product: eHoftrac Jury explanation: With the eHoftrac, Weidemann offers an emission-free, low-noise Hoftrac loader that’s perfect for horse care applications. Thanks to its electronic motor, the eHoftrac doesn’t require high RPMs to unleash its full power. Operation in closed-off spaces is no problem, and in future it can be recharged directly using a facility’s photovoltaic system.
