Project Title
: Macro level Assessment of land use/ land cover change in Kerala
Using Remote Sensing & GIS
Description
: The present study reveals the macro level assessment of land
use/land
cover dynamics in Kerala over a period of about 37 years. Landsat MSS and IRS images
have been utilized to quantify changes during 1974 and 2011. Supervised classification
technique has been used to map various land use/land cover categories. In this study,
change detection was used to assess the land use dynamics in Kerala, with special
reference to settlement and forest cover in state level and compare the changes in
regional level also. The present work was also assessed land use/land cover changes
(1974-1993/1995-2011) in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts which are
showing large scale changes in settlements and forests.
