English 11 Book Share/ Oral Presentation Guidelines Ms. Clark/ Mrs. Dumont Philosophy! Tell ‘me what you’re going to tell’em, tell ‘em, and tell ‘em what you told ‘em. Deliver an oral presentation of your independent reading selection for the each quarter. Prepare the following for two minute presentation to the class. Outline of presentation notes. (Note: Make sure your supporting materials/visuals are big enough for all to see, or have someone walk around and show it to the class during your presentation. Make sure too that it statse the author and title of the book you are reviewing. Introduction 1. Introduce your book with a hook. It could be asking them to form a question about your visual or asking the audience a question that connects to some conflict or feeling a character or characters have in your book. If it’s non-fiction, ask a question that has the audience thinking about a theme or themes in the life of the subject of the book. 2. Introduce the author and title of the book, and an overall feeling about the book. 3. Introduce the areas of the work you will elaborate on in your presentation. Body 1. Present information from the book about the most interesting aspect of it. Elaborate on at least two examples, references to the text, or passages. Offer your feeling or connection about this part. 2. Present information about the second most interesting part. Elaborate on at least two examples, references to the text, or passages. Offer your feeling or connection about this part 3. Present info about third most interesting part. Elaborate on at least two examples, references to the text, pr passages. Offer your feeling or connection about this part. Conclusion 1. 2. 3. 4. Restate your main points. Make a recommendation about who would like or not like the book . Try to say or do something memorable that connects to the book. Thank the audience for listening. Visual Presentation Directions: Choose one of the following options and design a visual to present your book to the class. 1. Design a character collage in which you use pictures/drawing to depict a characters personality trait. Explain how each image connects to book. 2. Make a Poster to advertise the book in a way to try and sell it to others. Imagine three one sentence reviews that point out some highlighted literary element of the book. 3. Interview a main character What would you say if you have this character on your television show? What the questions that you would ask them. What would their answers be based on textual information from the story? Make sure to ask about the most exciting incident or turn of events. Remember you want maximum audience viewing. 4. Computer Presentation: Use PowerPoint to create a visual presentation summarizing the plot, introducing the main characters and including any other important information about the book. 5. Children’s Book: Create a children’s book that retells the story. The book should be appropriate for elementary school children, and include illustrations and/or graphics. 6. Game: Create a trivial pursuit or other game based on your book. Include a game board, game pieces, questions, and answer cards. 7. Poetry Book: Compile a poetry book that includes acrostics, cinquains, diamante, comparison poems and bio poems that express all aspects of the novel. You must create at least eight different poems based on the novel. Make a decorative or colorful cover for the booklet. Put each poem on a separate page. 8. DEAR _____: Retell the novel through a series of letters to and responses from advice columnist (Ann Landers, Abby, etc.). The letters can be from one character or from many. Be creative. Make up your own column but make sure the column relates to the book.
