Project: Purification of Kaolinite (2001). M.Sc. Thesis: Engineering Geological Study of Rock Slope Stability in Harir Area, Kurdistan Region-Iraq. (2008). Supervisor: Prof. Saad Numan Al-Saadi (College of Science, University of Baghdad). Overview: The study included 22 selected stations for slope stability assessment in which rock slopes and discontinuities were surveyed and the relationships with failures were determined. The stereographic projection was used for representation of field data and for stability analyses. The study revealed the presence of different failure types; rock fall and plane sliding, are predominant at Bekhme rock slopes; and plane sliding is the most common failure in Shiranish rock slopes. At the single slope of Pilaspi, plane sliding and rock fall are predominant. The unconfined compressive strength values (from point load test) of representative samples of different formations indicate values between (103-153)MPa for Bekhme formation, between (61-99)MPa for Shiranish marly limestone, and (80) MPa for Pilaspi limestone. For failure hazard assessment, data were collected from 53 stations and a failure hazard map for the study area has been drawn for the first time, in scale of 1:20000, according to landslide possibility index (LPI) classification of Bejerman (1994). Another failure hazard map, but for roads and residential areas (according to Barison and Conteduca, 1998) has been drawn for the first time.
