TITLE: White Nose Syndrome Survey Technician BEGINNING DATE: November 1, 2015 LENGTH or NUMBER OF HOURS: variable: hours up to 40 hours per week (930 hours max) PAY RATE: $9.86/hour (up to 40 hrs a week). DUTIES: The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has an opening for a parttime (up to 40 hours/week) field technician to assist with White Nose Syndrome (WNS) surveillance in bat hibernacula (caves and mines) across the state. Primary responsibilities will include: conducting fieldwork (counting hibernating bats, swabbing hibernating bats for WNS, photographing hibernating bats, assisting with bat collections for research), coordinating and maintaining equipment, data entry and quality control. General Responsibilities include: 1) Assisting the bat biologist and assistant cave ecologist with field work (counting hibernating bats, swabbing bats, photographing bats, driving vehicles in rugged conditions, limited mist netting) 2) Extended driving time on highways, uneven roads, off road 3) Data entry, quality control and archiving using Excel, Access and ArcGIS Basic Qualifications: * B.S. in natural resources, wildlife biology or related field * Willingness and ability to travel statewide (Department vehicle most likely provided and meals and lodging provided while on 12 hour or overnight travel status). * Comfortable with working underground for extensive periods of time * Must pass a pre-employment drug screen Preferred Qualifications: * At least 1 season of field experience * Experience with working in caves or mines * Experience with utilizing ArcGIS * Able to travel state wide and stay over nights occasionally * Have a flexible schedule * Strong communication and teamwork skills * Flexible and adaptable personality CONTACT PERSON Send resume via email as Word attachment to shelly.colatskie@mdc.mo.gov/.
