Project: The “living” Constitution - HONORS

Objective:
create a project for a culmination of both the “roots of democracy” and “constitution” units
Directions:
depict that the constitution is a “living” document that changes with society, including all the
requirements listed below
Materials:
Be creative! It’s up to you to decide how you depict the information for this project, but make sure you
meet all the project requirements…and have fun doing it too!
Requirements:






The five fundamental principles of government
o Define each of the five fundamental principles of government
o Give an example or current event for each fundamental principle of government
The “roots of democracy”/ documents that influenced the Constitution
o List the documents in correct historical order
o Each document should include the following:
 Author(s)
 Year(s) written
 Significance/purpose(s)
 Fundamental principle(s) found in the document
Preamble to the Constitution
o The meaning of each “job” given to the government in the preamble
o Give an example or current event for each of the purposes listed in the Preamble
 Make sure to include the site for the current events
All seven articles of the Constitution
o Include the branch of government set-up in Articles I, II and III
 Each branch should include the following:
 Who makes up that branch of government
 What the job or role of that branch of government is
o Make sure to explain what each article means – especially article VI
Amendments to the Constitution
o The total number of amendments
o What the bill of rights is
 All rights given to citizens in each amendment of the Bill of Rights
The project should be creative and colorful
Alternative/Additional Points can be given for things like an explanation of the amendment process, a description of all
amendments to the Constitution, details of who makes up each branch of government (who our reps in congress are,
the supreme court justices, the line of succession for the office of the president, etc.), questions to review the
amendments or any other additional information, and any other creative ways to review this material you can think of 
