LESSON NO.2 STD: - VI Topic: - MethodS of Separation INSTRUCTION OBJECTIVES:1) KNOWLEDGE LEVEL:1) The student will be able to recall names o method like handpicking & sieving. 2) The student will be able to recognize different method of separation i.e. handpicking & Sieving. 2) UNDERSTANDING LEVEL:1) The student will be able to classify different method of separation based on mixtures to be separated. 2) The student will be able to cites illustration for method of hand picking. 3) The students will be able to cites illustration for method of separation i.e. sieving. 4) The student will be able to discriminate between method of separation i.e. handpicking & Sieving. APPLICATION LEVEL:1) The student will be able to select appropriate method for separation of different substances. CONCEPTS:METHOD OF SEPARATION -- Handpicking :- This is method of separation of substances with help of hand. -- This method is used when size of materials is large & also -- The quality is limited also. -- SEIVING:-This is method of Separation o substances from mixture with the help of sieve. -- This method is used when size of substance is small & -- components of mixture have different sizes PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:--Day today activities like separation of tea powder from Tea, removal of stone or husk from slice. -- The student should know to separate different substances. INTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:SET INDUCTION:ACTIVITY -I :-Rice ,husk, wheat flour, stones, Masoordal, Groundnuts -worksheet-I DEVELOPMENT:ACTIVITY -II :- Sand, stones, onion, potato, Dal, wheat flour, Groundnut, Grams. worksheet-II ACTIVITY -III :- Wheat flour, worksheet-III Small stones, Rava, Rice, Sand & stones SEQUENTIAL TEACHING LEANING EXPECTED BEHAVIOURAL ACTIVITIES OUTCOME SET INDUCTION :Teacher greets the students Students also greets teacher Tr,. :- Good Morning student ss:- Good Morning teacher Activity -I :Material required :- Rice, Husk, Wheat flour, stones, Groundnuts & its coverings. -- Teacher makes pair of students as one group -- Teacher gives following instruction to students I will give mixture to each group . Do Not eat the substances given to you from this mixture. I want each group to have individual substances. -- Teacher gives worksheet to each group. -- Observe given mixture substances is useful or not. --Teacher ask following questions based on activity Tr:- Group I :- Which mixture was given to ss:- Rice & husk you? Tr:- What you have done with this ss:- Separation mixture? Tr:, which all thing you have separated? ss:- Husk from Rice Tr:- Which substance is useful to us? ss:- Rice Tr:- Why there is need of separation of ss:- husk is an unwanted thing husk from rice? Tr:- So you have done separation for ss:- Wheat flour & stones removing unwanted substance from mixture . Tr:- Group II :- Which mixture was given to ss:- separation you ? Tr:- What you have done with this mixture? ss:- stones from wheat flour Tr:- what substance you have separated? ss:- Tr:- why there is need for separation of ss:- stones is an unwanted thing stones from wheat flour? Tr:- so why you have done separation? ss:- To remove unwanted things from useful once. Tr:- Group III:- which mixture was given to ss:- Ground nut and their you? coverings Tr:- what you have done with this mixture ss:- separation Tr:- which is useful components in your ss:- Groundnut mixture? Tr:- covering is non useful component? This activity shown that you have separated mixtures into individuals components based on whether the substances are useful or not and To remove unwanted things from useful once. STATEMENT OF TOPIC:so today in this class we are going to learn about “ METHODS OF SEPARATION” (Tr. write on C.B.) DEVELOPMENT OF LESSON :ACTIVITY-II:Material required:- Sand, stones,Dal,. wheatflour,Groundnut,Grams,Onion,Potato. -Teacher divides class & make pair student as I group - Teacher gives following instructing to students I will give mixture to each of group you have to seperated this substances -Teacher give each packet of mixture to each group - Teacher gives one worksheet to each students separate the mixture group into individual components Teacher ask following question to students. Tr:- What you have done with mixture? ss:- separation Tr:- How you have done separation? ss:- with the help of hand Tr:- what is the size of these substances? ss:- Big Tr:- Is the amount of mixture is large or ss:- small small? Tr:- Group -II what is given to you? ss:- Mixture of sand & stones Tr:- what you have done with mixture ? ss:- separation Tr:- which substances you have separated ? ss:-stones from sand Tr:- Is amount of mixture is large small? ss:-small Tr:- How you have done separation ? ss:- with the help of hand Tr:- Group -III:- what is given to you? ss:- mixture of potato & onion. Tr:- what you have done with mixture? ss:- separation Tr:- which substance you have separated? ss:- potato from onion Tr:- what is the size of these substances? ss:- big Tr:- How you have done separation? ss:- with the help of hand. Tr:- In all above mixtures you have seen that these can be easily separated by hand & all these substances are bigger in size & smaller in quality? :. This activity shows that - The method of separation of substances with help of hand is called as hand picking. - This method is used when size of materials larger or big. - This method is used if quantity is small. -Tr:- If you have to separate a whole bag of ss:- No wheat flour mixed with stones can you use handpicking method? Tr:- when quantity is large we can use other method. Tr:- you will require hours to separate stones from wheat flour you have top adopt certain other way for separation. ACTIVITY-III:Material required :- different types of sieve, wheat flour, small stones, Rava, Rice, Sand & Stones. -- Teacher makes pair of student as one group - Teacher gives following instructions to students listen to instructions students observe the mixture carefully & teacher -Teachers gives worksheets of each group you have to put tick mark in correct box. - Teacher tells one by one group to come Student select appropriate sieve forward& separate mixture. require for separation of their mixture. - Teachers tells to note down which sieve they are using& mark on worksheet. - Teachers asks following Questions based on activity. Tr:- what is given to you? ss:- Mixture of wheat flour & stones. Tr:- How you have separated this mixture? ss;- with the help of sieve. Tr:- what is the size of this substances? ss;- small Tr:- which sieve you have used for ss;- sieve. A separation? Tr:- why you have not used for other 2 ss;- size of pores of sieve B was sieve ? big. Tr:- what will happen if you use other ss;- Mixture will not get sieve? separated Tr:- why mixture will not get separated? ss;- size of pores Big Teacher ask similar Questions as above to Group II & Group III Tr:- So we can say that method of separation with the help of sieve is called as sieving. If quantity is large & size of substances is small this effective method of separation. This activity shown that -The method of separation with help of sieve is called as sieving. -This is used for separation when components have different size. Tr:- Let us summaries what we have learnt today. Teacher uses concept map & summaries what we have learnt today. EVALUATION:Fill in the blanks :- The method of separation of substances ss:- Handpicking with help of hand is called as _________. - The method of separation of substances with the help of sieve is called as ________. Match the following :A (Separation) B (Method) a) Groundnut & Gram b) Rice & stones c) Rava & Rice d) Onion & potatoes a) handpicking b) Sieving ss:- sieving Home work :Write 5 examples of handpicking & 2 examples of sieving
