For immediate release: 23 October 2013 General Public Warning Local Scam Syndicates are once again preying on unsuspecting customers of financial institutions in Namibia. One of the most recent scams discovered is for fraudsters to call customers who have recently placed obituary notices for family members in the press, and pose as financial advisers who require direct payment in order to speed up death claim payouts. Various scam syndicates have been investigated recently, and some criminal fraudsters arrested by the Namibian Police, but financial services customers are warned to always remain vigilant about their confidential financial matters. Old Mutual wishes to remind customers that at no time will any Old Mutual adviser request direct fee payment to facilitate or speed up any claims process. In fact, in terms of current process, no customer of Old Mutual Namibia is expected to pay advisers directly at any time. Should any member of the public be approached in this way, please contact the financial institution concerned immediately with the details of the caller. Old Mutual Client Services can be reached at (061) 299 3108. ENDS Issued by: Tracy Eagles Executive: Marketing, Transformation & Customer Strategy Tel. 061 – 299 3924 E-mail. teagles@oldmutual.com
