PRAYING FOR NEIGHBOURING CHURCHES IN BRISBANE Clayfield Baptist Church (David Champness) Partnered with a church plant in Indonesia, which they sponsor and support financially as well as through encouragement and prayers. In four weeks’ time there will be a mission trip to Sumatra. New area for that supports both the youth group and our Kids Rock classes on a Sunday. The removal of a wall within the church building, so that they could physically expand the sanctuary and allow the church to grow. Windsor Road Baptist Church The church has two staff and volunteers running a Thrift Shop. One of the recently appointed staff is a student minister and he is using the ministry to have faith conversations with shop customers. On Sundays at lunch time there is a Conversational English group for International Students which not only teaches English but also introduces them to Jesus and Christianity Church at the Gabba This was formerly South Brisbane Baptist Church and is an ethnically diverse church engaging in ministries to international students through English classes and “Bridges” on Friday night to give international students an opportunity to read and discuss the Bible. PRAYING FOR AUSTRALIAN CHURCHES 2011 National Church Life Survey [32,290 adults, 331 Australian Baptist Churches] Supper Toowong Baptist Church • Age: Average attender is 48 years compared to 46 years in 2006 (Pray for keeping and reaching the youth) Toowong Baptist Church • Gender: 56% are women (Pray for reaching and engaging more men) • Ethnicity: 19% were born in a non-English speaking country which is up from 11% in 2006 (Pray for the growth of ethnically diverse ministries and churches) Leadership & Ministry • Percentage of attenders involved in leadership roles is falling from 52% in 2001 to 47% in 2011 • 20% say: “Our leaders encourage us to a great extent to use our gifts here” which has fallen from 2011 when it was 27%. • The highest response for the question: “What should be given greater attention” was “encouraging people to discover and use their gifts” (36%) Pray for more leaders who equip more leaders Involved & Inviting Carinity, formerly Queensland Baptist Care provides services such as Aged Care, Alternative Education, Youth Accommodation, Counselling and Chaplaincy across Queensland Jisas wantaim, has developed a number of project areas to help fulfil its vision to equip, empower and enable a new generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Christian leaders, such as D12 (a 12 week leadership training experience for indigenous Christians), Grasstree Gathering (an annual indigenous Christian leaders’ conference), and Dhiiyaan Northside church (Billy Williams). PRAYING FOR CHURCHES IN QUEENSLAND Queensland Camping and Conference Centres are the largest, non-government provider of camping in Queensland, providing each year hospitality to over 100000 school students. Pray that chaplains, volunteers and believing teachers, with God’s help, will be able to build on the work already done at a QCCC campsite.
