(Students are required to schedule extra help.)
TEXTBOOK: Textbook will be provided by the school for the students use.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The 9th Grade World History course consists of the following content area strands: World
History, Geography and Humanities. This course is a continued in-depth study of the history of
civilizations and societies from the middle school course, and includes the history of civilizations
and societies of North and South America. Students will be exposed to historical periods leading
to the beginning of the 21st century. So that students can clearly see the relationship between
cause and effect in historical events, students should have the opportunity to review those
fundamental ideas and events from ancient and classical civilizations.
GENERAL CLASSROOM RULES:

The student is expected to know and to follow the school guidelines and policies as they
have been stated in the Student Handbook. Failure to follow the rules will result in
consequences outlined in the Student Handbook.

Each student will be required to exercise mutual RESPECT and courtesy at all times for
both the teacher and other students.

Every student must bring the required materials to class each day.

Students will have assigned seating in the classroom.

Cell phones are not permitted to be used without permission in the World History
classroom.

Use the restroom between classes or during lunch. Please do not ask unless it is an
emergency.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:





1 Folder
1 Five Subject Notebook to be used ONLY for Social Studies.
Pencils/Pens
Loose Leaf Paper
4 Pack of Highlighters. (4 different colors required.)
GRADE DETERMINATION:
Procedures:
1) A minimum of one formative (quiz) will be given before any summative (test). Formatives
(quizzes can be announced or unannounced.)
2) A summative exam (test) will be announced at least one week prior to its administration. A
study guide and assessment rubric will be provided to the student at least one week prior to and
not including the summative date. The study guide will include the type of assessment offered
(essay, short answer, etc.) and number of questions.
Grading:
1) Formatives (quizzes) are worth 10-35 points depending upon the skill(s) covered.
2) Summative assessments are worth 100 points.
3) Homework may be awarded up to 10 points.
4) Projects will vary in weight, typically ranging from 40-75 points. On occasion, some projects
may be considered at the weight of a summative assessment.
5) A point system will be used for all grading purposes. For interim and report cards, points will
then be converted to the corresponding letter grade.

Academic Dishonesty: Students are expected to be honest and ethical in their academic work.
Academic dishonesty is defined as an intentional act of deception in one of the following areas:

Cheating: use or attempted use of unauthorized materials, information or study aids.
Fabrication: falsification or invention of any information.
Assisting: helping another commit an act of academic dishonesty.
Tampering: altering or interfering with evaluation instruments and/or documents.
Plagiarism: representing the words or ideas of another person as one’s own.
Consequences for Academic Dishonesty: Grade of zero, parental contact, and warning from
administration.

student’s first homework assignment.)
