Pre-Class Questionnaire Beginners' Irish Genealogy class, Gadgets for Grownups series Saturday, September 26th, 2015 The Beginners' Irish Genealogy class is for those genealogy enthusiasts who have gathered information from American records about their Irish emigrant family and would like to move on to learning more about their family’s life in Ireland. When beginning Irish research, researchers ideally should have records of their ancestor’s birth dates, the names of parents and siblings, and emigration and naturalization dates to accurately locate the correct family in the correct county or town in Ireland. Using the American record information, the class will focus on taking beginning steps in Irish Heritage research to narrow down the possibilities or pinpoint their family’s location in Ireland. NOTE: If you haven’t completed your American research, before the Irish genealogy class, you can request a copy of the Beginner’s Guide to American Genealogy (from our December Beginners' class) to help you prepare. We’d appreciate your answering the following questions so we can focus the class on your beginning research needs & interests as much as possible: 1. Have you spoken to your relatives to learn details of your family's Irish emigration story? If so, what type of details have you gathered? (emigrant, parent & sibling names, birth dates, emigration dates, naturalization records etc.) 2. Have you documented the emigrant family details by gathering census, birth, death, & marriage records, obituaries, naturalization or other records etc.? 3. Have you found records to document which county, city or townland your emigrant ancestor originated from in the Irish Republic (the 26 central and southern counties) or Northern Ireland (the 6 counties of the north)? If so, which records have you located? (census, birth, marriage or death records, naturalizations, newspaper articles, etc.) 4. Are there any particular topics of interest? (We will try to address these in either the research guide or the class.) 7. 30.2015
