Version 2 - American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture

Dear Doctor,
I am writing as a colleague to share some information about veterinary acupuncture: a noninvasive, cost-effective, valuable health care modality that is useful for treating many common
conditions.
While veterinary acupuncture is recognized as a treatment for musculoskeletal and
neuromuscular conditions involving pain and paralysis, it actually has much broader clinical applications
and works well in conjunction with conventional treatments. Endocrine diseases, immune mediated
diseases, epilepsy, renal disease, post-surgical care and abnormal behavior cases are a few of the clinical
problems that can benefit from acupuncture as part of a treatment regimen. By integrating
acupuncture into treatment protocols, health practitioners see higher overall success rates and are able
to use lower doses of pharmaceuticals, improving patient quality of life.
Certified veterinary acupuncturists are licensed veterinarians fully trained in acupuncture and
required to pass extensive written and practical examinations by qualified institutions. The three basic
courses currently certifying veterinarians are: the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, the Chi
Institute and the Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians.
Attached you will find information about the professional organization the American Academy
of Veterinary Acupuncture, the scientific basis of acupuncture, conditions which respond well to
acupuncture and resources that are available for both practitioners and clients.
Below is my contact information if you have any questions or would like further discussion.
Sincerely,
DVM, CVA
