The Bone Marrow Registration Drive is today, Wed, April 17th, in the Loading Dock (Memorial Union) from 9am-4pm. The process of registration takes about 10 minutes, and consists of a cheek swab with a qtip (self-administered) and filling out a donor card. Only 1 in 500 people on the registry are ever asked to take the life-saving step to donate; the process of marrow donation is generally an outpatient procedure that takes a few hours. Although most will never be called upon, all expenses are covered for donors if they are asked to donate. More information can be found here: https://www.deletebloodcancer.org/register/register-now.html Teachers, please consider sharing this 2-minute video at the beginning of your Wednesday classes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw5HTSEcyxo&list=UULis0wFE6UdoXHq2cUig Ypg&index=13 If you'd like to volunteer to help get people registered at the event today, we still have tables in need of helpers- you can sign up here for a two-hour time slot: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050D44A8A72CA64-dkms This drive is being led by the Department of Social Work, with support from students and faculty in Medical Lab Sciences. We invite everyone out to get swabbed today- there will be a group prize for the club or org who sends the most people out to the drive (we'll ask who sent you over!) Here's a video from someone who unfortunately never found a match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlfOSqBV1bs and another video of a donor who met her recipient- DKMS coordinates a meeting a year after a match if parties are willing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfZ3SAwNkhU
