Introductions Michelle Wykes welcomed the group, received apologies (as listed above) and introductions were then made around the table. 3. Minutes from previous meeting and matters arising Minutes accepted as a true record. No matters arising 4. Nottinghamshire Police Easter Project (Carla Palmer) Carla Palmer sent her apologies to the group . MW/ RC updated on her behalf. There is a need to create a portfolio of activities available for young people to access and be signposted to. It is hoped that this portfolio can be promoted during Easter holiday activities to be delivered by Nottinghamshire police with a focus on Sutton, Huthwaite and Hucknall areas. It has not been confirmed who will be responsible for creating the portfolio. Julie Bailey did this previously and since her post has ended nothing has been replaced due to time constraints of all partners on the group. Active Ashfield partners would be happy to provide information for the portfolio if Nottinghamshire police have the capacity to create and update the portfolio. RC to pass this update on to Carla. 5. Partner Showcase – Nottinghamshire Sport (Denise Richards) DR presented updates to the group (presentation included with the minutes) Key points from the presentation include: - DR is the nominated Geographical Liaison Officer for the Ashfield area A new Youth Sport Officer has been appointed and awaiting a start date. This RC - - - - - - role will focus on school games, Higher and Further Education and satellite clubs. Any partners struggling to engage with NGB’s should raise this with DR or Jade Gresham Matt Bloor’s role currently focuses on bowls, golf and rounders. Matt is particularly struggling to engage with bowls clubs in the Ashfield area and has funding to support a bowls roadshow and sessions. CH to forward to parks team who are in contact with bowls clubs using park facilities. RC looking into this with links to Lammas clubs. Chris Role will now have a role in developing health improvement, workplace challenge and County Sports Awards Sarah Williams is the new contact for Sportivate Ken Pollard will now concentrate on funding applications, attracting investment and providing statistics and information to local partners A 1 day British Heart Foundation training day will be delivered for health champions within workplaces to help support the workplace challenge uptake. DH/ AP queried how this links to the Nottinghamshire Workplace Health Award Scheme and training. Ashfield currently has 3 satellite clubs – netball, hockey and handball Dan West will take on the role of developing inclusive satellite clubs and links to local sports clubs Pete Edwards will be deputy to Denise in role of Geographical Liaison Officer In April a disability inclusion toolkit session will provide an opportunity for local partners to come together and plan the way forward for disability sport across the County Sport Nottinghamshire will be supporting the Sport England This Girl Can campaign. Links will be made to the Sport Nottinghamshire website, This girl Can clubs and club champions will be nominated and promotional materials will be available. A female only Sportivate round of funding is currently available to apply for. Ashfield has had at least 20 young athletes funded through the Rising Starts Funds The Nottinghamshire Framework for Sport is currently being refreshed. AP raised the importance of this linking to existing health strategies and the County health and wellbeing board priorities. RS requested support from DR for a football tournament being organised by West Notts College to raise awareness of different equality groups. DR to follow this up. 6. Nottinghamshire Obesity Prevention Weight Management Service The new service has now commissioned has will be delivered by Everyone health. MW circulated a document to the group giving further details. A weekly communication CH/RC DR bulletin is currently in place to keep partners updated of developments. Any partners who do not currently receive this and would want to should contact the Everyone Health Team. The model used will include 3 levels: Tier 1 – Promotion and awareness raising of health lifestyle to encourage behaviour change. Partners will be upskilled to do this. Tier 2 – 12 week weight management programmes available within local community venues based on need. These programmes will encourage long term behaviour change and there will be an inclusion and exclusion criteria. Tier 3 – More specialist support including one to one and psychological support for individuals. Services for pregnant women before, during and after pregnancy will be available across all tiers. Recruitment of delivery staff is currently in process and it is hoped that the team will be based at Kirkby Health Village. An information sheet for service users is available so that that enquiries and expressions of interest in the service can be made and identify need. ALL to pass this information on through networks. ALL Referrals can be made by professionals or through self referral. AM asked how GP’s have been engaged in the service. MW explained all GP’s have been receiving the weekly communication and partnerships are being made to strengthen the referral pathway. AM raised concerns about use of 0845 number. MW explained that this will be changed once an office base has been confirmed and in place. RS explained that the health and wellbeing Team at West Notts College could link with this service. RS to pass information on to Andrew Whyman who is the Team Leader. 7. Active Ashfield Events CH gave an update of the events and sessions to be included in this years events schedule: - - Active Ashfield Walk, Cycle, Run will take place on Sunday 26th April at Kingsway park. A £50 prize will be available for the club/ organisation registering the most participants before the pre registration date. There will be an opportunity for partners to promote their services at the event. Please contact CH if interested. A sponsored Swim will be delivered in partnership with Sutton Swimming Club at Lammas Leisure Centre on Sunday 26th April Ashfield’s Gotta Dance auditions and new adult dance sessions will be included Gymnastics and hockey coaching New walking football sessions will be available at Lammas and Selston Leisure Centres Xplorer Orienteering sessions will be delivered by Sure Start An it’s a Knock Out competition will be available targeting local workplaces to enter teams An inclusive Games sports taster day will be available for disabled people to have a go at different sports and activities Inclusive cricket sessions will be delivered by Nottinghamshire County Cricket and Nottinghamshire Disability cricket club the sessions will be followed by a ALL - cricket festival Back 2 Netball sessions at Ashfield School Ashfield Factor Singing competition The finals day event will take place on Saturday 27th June at Kingsway Park. There will also be a closing ceremony which will link to the opening of the new plaza in Kirkby Town Centre on Saturday 4th July. Opportunity for partners to promote their services at these events will be available, please contact CH. All leaflets for activities to be circulated to the group and partners to promote as much as possible. Ollie Hynd, Becky Downie and Ellie Downie, winners at the Active Ashfield Sports Awards were also winners at the County Awards. The Stop Bullying in Sport Campaign also won project of the Year. The next Active Ashfield Sports Awards will take place on Friday 20th November. Sponsorship will be needed again to ensure the event can be delivered. Any partners interested in sponsoring an award should contact CH. 8. Everyone Active Update RC gave the following update from everyone Active: - - - - - A new programme will be delivered in partnership with mencap for adults with learning disabilities from April at Lammas Leisure Centre 9 young people have volunteered at Lammas as part of the new leadership academy with further volunteers at other sites within the district. Volunteers are being encouraged to attend training and supporting at activities to gain experience. A new activity apprentice has been employed to work across all leisure centre sites Currently working in partnership with ADC community Wellbeing Team to develop cycling opportunities within the district Volunteer placements for students at Portland College have now started within the centres Active Rackets Level 1 badminton course has now been delivered A disability reablement project is due to start in April to engage people who have acquired a disability into sport for physical and social benefits. This will be in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council and Ashfield District Council. An exercise and movement programme called Born to Move has now started within centres with sessions available for children from 2 years onwards. This is a Les Mills programme and encourages movement and dance. XIce sessions have been delivered successfully in partnership with Sutton Sting Ice Hockey Club. 20 young people have been attending the Friday night sessions - Aquanatal classes are now available at Lammas Leisure Centre A Sportivate application to develop sledge hockey at Lammas Leisure Centre has been successful 9. Active Ashfield Action plan updates MW thanked all partners for adding their achievements against the action plan to date. Plan to be circulated with the minutes. AP raised the need to ensure that the plan reflected public health priorities and links to MACCG. AM to present at the next meeting to improve partner awareness of the communication methods with local GP surgeries. 10. Active Ashfield Disability Forum DH gave an update: - The group now has a constitution in place and nominated committee members. New inclusive sessions will be delivered as part of this years Active Ashfield Games programme The reablement project is due to start 1st April. Mencap will be delivering a new physical activity programme for adults with a learning disability in partnership with Lammas Leisure Centre 11. Active Ashfield Website A new provider has now been sourced and the Active Ashfield website is currently being redesigned and updated. CH showed the website to the group. If any partners would like information including on the website please contact CH ALL It is hoped that the site will be live within the next few weeks. 12. AOB CH handed out posters for a workplace choir event taking place to raise money to support Ollie Hynd and Muscular Dystrophy. SP informed the group that this would be her last meeting as her post will come to an end from 31st March. MW thanked SP for her support to the group. KB explained that Mansfield District Council are offering walking football sessions to employees as part of the workplace health award scheme launch and asked if there was a possibility of arranging a competition between the 2 councils. DH to look into this. KB asked who would be representing Active Ashfield at future Active Mansfield meetings. MW attending next meeting. MW/ CH/ DH to share attendance.
