Notes about Multiple, Mixed, and Separated Occupancies:
Multiple Occupancy – Two or more classes of occupancy exist. Two subclassifications:


Mixed Occupancy – A multiple occupancy where the occupancies are intermingled. Each
portion of the building is classified by its use. The most restrictive fire and life safety
requirements apply to the whole building.
Separated Occupancy – A multiple occupancy where the occupancies are separated by fire
resistance rated assemblies. Each part of the building is treated as the applicable occupancy
classification.
