The meeting was called to order at 7:20 pm by Rusty Hess. Taking minutes is Trish Mims.
Also in attendance were Board members: Mike Story, Iris Story,Trish Mims, Cathy Frank, Matthew Cushing,
Randal Sitton, Rusty Hess, Jennifer Garrison, Arlene Valmoral & James Johannesen (Guest)
Jennifer Garrison moved to accept the minutes of the September 9th meeting as distributed. Randal Sitton
seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Officer Reports:
a. President Hess noted that the items he had to discuss would be reported in committee reports so
there was no President’s Report for this meeting.
b. Vice President Randall Sitton reported on the September 16th UHAA Council meeting. Topics
included who is an alumnus, Homecoming, and a variety of items UHAA is requesting from
constituent groups. Mr. Sitton’s notes full notes are attached.
c. Corresponding Secretary – No report
d. Recording Secretary – No report
e. Treasurer Mike Story reported that we have not received a financial report from UHAA since
February 2014. Mr. Story presented a budget for consideration and noted that UHAA has requested
budgets from all constituent groups no later than October 15th. They have also promised to have full
accounting reports to each constituent group no later than October 15 th. Treasurer Story believes
based in his records we should have a balance of approximately $5,098.92. After discussion Jennifer
Garrison moved that the budget be adopted as presented. Randall Sitton seconded the motion.
Motion passed.
President Hess called for reports from standing committees.
a. Communications - Nancy Hess sent a report via Cathy Frank. We will try to get a newsletter
published in the next week to two weeks to keep everyone informed of fall activities. Persons who
will contribute articles have been emailed. Articles are due October 12, 2014.
b. Fundraising – Chris Mims – No report.
c. Special Projects - Trish Mims
i. Auction items are well in hand. Items will be sorted and put into packages for individual
auction items this weekend. A new supply of bid sheets have been purchased. Scholarship
plagues are being engraved for display at the event. Cathy Frank has arranged with Dr.
Davis to be one of our “auction items” – Dinner with Dr. Davis. If there are holes we need to
fill for items the board will be informed next week. Discussion of publicity was held.
President Hess and Jennifer Garrison are working on getting some publicity out. Special
thanks to the Board of Directors for the amazing contribution of wine for a wine basket
auction item.
ii. Last year there were 25 senior garters left and Rhonda Pitts informed us at the last meeting
that there were 33 Seniors this year. Discussion among committee members was held via
email and the decision was made to make 25 garters this year so we have a head start on
next year. A date for an “assembly party” will be forthcoming.
iii. All of the remaining chairs are complete and will be delivered at the next home game for
use at future tailgates.
d. Tailgating Committee - Jennifer Garrison
i. Alumni Day – we still don’t have a game time. As soon as we get the time details will be
finalized and released. Information is already published on the website and facebook page.
Marsha Howard is preparing a design for our shirts this year. They will be sold for $15 each
on a preorder basis only.
ii. Red Drank shirts were discussed and we will be placing an order for the following quantities
– 5 small, 10 medium, 15 large, 15 xl and 5 xxl. More can be ordered if needed. The Board
gave Jennifer their orders to be added to these numbers.

The meeting moved into consideration of previous business. Jennifer Garrison presented the Board with a
calendar of events for the remainder of 2014, as follows.

Discussion was held on a potential date for our spring Basketball Event. February 21, 2015, UH vs
Cincinnati was selected as the date. The format will be similar to previous events. We will meet for
dinner – Calhoun’s Rooftop was suggested and then everyone can purchase their own general
admission tickets and sit near Cougar Brass.

The meeting moved into consideration of announcements. Congratulations to Arlene Valmoral and James
Johannesen on their recent engagement! Also, the Story Christmas Party will be held December 13, 2015.
Randall Sitton moved and Trish Mims seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 8:05 pm .
