winstanley college Entry Policy 2013-14 For September 2013, the College will guarantee a place to all applicants who achieve 50 points and above from their best 8 GCSE results. All students must have achieved a C grade or above in GCSE English, Maths and Science (level 2 equivalent science qualifications are also acceptable). It may be possible to accept students who haven’t yet achieved a C grade or above in GCSE Maths onto Diploma courses. Diploma Admissions The College recognises that as well as GCSEs, other qualifications are suited to progression onto practical courses such as the Diplomas in Performing Arts or Art & Design. Therefore, in addition to GCSEs, applicants for Diploma courses can include vocational and specialist qualifications when calculating their average score. As with other applicants only eight qualifications can be used and a successful audition or acceptable portfolio must be offered as one of these eight. Transfers from Diploma to a 4AS level course will not normally be possible. Please see overleaf for the detail of how points are awarded. For non-English qualifications the College will use NARIC equivalencies and QCA adjudications. If the College is able to offer places to students with less than 50 points, offers will be made on a declining scale e.g. to those with 49, 48 points etc. For students who achieve fewer than 50 points, in the event of the points score not being a sufficiently precise discriminator, offers will be made on the basis of a) number of A*s b) number of As amongst the best 8 results c) number of Bs If in doubt about the progression value of a specific course, please contact the College’s admissions office at the earliest opportunity. Applications Deadline Only applications received in College by Friday 1st March 2013 can be considered. Acceptance Forms Unfortunately given the pressure on college places, if you do not return your acceptance form to the College, we regret that you will not be eligible to enrol in August. Enrolment We aim to finalise our admissions procedures by the end of Friday 23rd August 2013. If you don’t attend your enrolment interview (the date and time for this is stated in your offer letter) we will assume you no longer wish to take up our offer of a place. If you cannot avoid being away on holiday during the enrolment period (22nd and 23rd August 2013) you must contact us beforehand to arrange a later enrolment date. You must also arrange for your results, and any proposed change of course, to be sent to the college by 12 noon on Friday 23rd August 2013. This can be done by: telephone (01695 633244) fax (01695 633409) e-mail janet.bennett@winstanley.ac.uk winstanley college If you do not provide us with these details by the specified date we will assume you no longer wish to come to Winstanley. Appeals Requests for special consideration should normally be accompanied by support from the applicant’s school and be made in writing to the Vice Principal, Mel Chadwick. Appeals for special consideration will be heard by the Admissions Panel if received before GCSE results are published. Only in exceptional circumstances is the College able to hear appeals made after GCSE results have been published.
