Coaching Symposium 3 Using Video and Online Resources to Improve Teaching and Learning You will be accessing online resources and making a reference list to share with your fellow coaches. You will submit your list to Barbara.Locker-Halmy@lausd.net to be compiled. You do not need to write answers to questions unless there is a direction that specifically asks you to do so, however, be prepared to discuss your insights. 1. National Board Teachers use videotaping of their own practice as a tool for improving their own practice as well as demonstrating their level of expertise for certification. Watch these videos on the use of capturing video of classroom practice Think about how you could use videos of your own classroom practice to help a teacher you are coaching How might you use video of the new teacher’s (or other colleague’s) practice to facilitate a coaching conversation What other resources could you share with your colleagues on using video as a part of the coaching process? https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/teaching-coaching-models/?utm_source=newsletter20150509/ https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/improve-teaching-with-video https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/videotaping-tips-for-teachers 2. Watching videos of classroom practice, demonstrations or information on a topic that are available from other practitioners can be a powerful tool for working with a new teacher. How might you use a video that has been posted for public access (teaching channel, edutopia, you tube…..) as a tool to work with another teacher? What are some of the areas that you have noticed that teachers might want help in? Explore online resources and find a minimum of three video resources that you would be able to share with your fellow coaches that could be used to help move a teacher’s practice forward. List them and make a few notes for each on how you might use it, what key points you might highlight, etc.—This will be sent to Barbara. View this video on how you can make notes for a video on Teaching Channel and share them with a colleague. How might this strategy be used in a coaching situation? https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/make-share-video-notes/?utm_source=newsletter20150509/ We have used some excerpts from the Teacher Survival Guide series. You might want to look at more of them. https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/tch-presents-new-teacher-survival-guide. 3. The internet is also a wonderful resource for accessing articles and information. Read the brief article at https://www.teachingchannel.org/blog/2015/05/06/video-coachingexperiment/?utm_source=newsletter20150509/ Look at the related posts section on the left—investigate any that interest you How might this strategy work to assist in introducing information to a teacher you are working with? Make a list of a minimum of three links to articles or classroom lesson plans that you think would be valuable for coaches to use with a teacher they are working with. Include a few notes about each of the resources you have selected. Add it to the list to send to Barbara.
