HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
HEALTH EFFECTS – ACUTE Swallowed
The toxicological properties of this material have not been fully
investigated.
Eye Contact
Dust may irritate the eyes.
Skin Contact
The human body absorbs nitrate through the skin. As with a
chemicals in general, larger quantities may cause poisoning.
Inhaled
Exposure to dust is slightly irrative to the respiratory tract
(including mucous membranes, throat and lungs).
HEALTH EFFECTS – CHRONIC – The toxicological properties of this material have not been fully
investigated.

First Aid Facilities
Advice to Doctor
If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or
water to drink. Seek medical aid immediately. DO NOT induce
vomiting. Allow the victim to rinse their mouth and then drink
2-4 cupfuls of water.
If contact with eyes occurs, immediately irrigate with copious
quantities of water for at least 15 minutes. Eyelids to be held
open, seek immediate medical assistance.
Flush affected area with plenty of water for at least 15
minutes, while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. If
effects persist seek medical attention.
Remove from fresh air immediately. If not breathing give
artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Seek
medical attention.
Ensure an eye bath and safety shower are available and
ready for use.
Large amounts of nitrates taken by mouth may have serious
or even fatal effects. Small, repeated doses may lead to
weakness, general depression, headache and mental
impairment.
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
Exposure standards
Engineering controls
N exposure standard has not been established for this product
by Worksafe Australia. Safe at all levels.
Use adequate general or local exhaust ventilation to keep
airborne concentration to a minimum. Use process enclosure,
local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to
control airborne levels.

PERSONAL PROTECTION
Respirator type (AS 1716)
Appropriate respirators may be full face piece or a half mask
air-purifying cartridge respirator with particulate filters, self
contained breathing apparatus in the pressure demand mode,
or a supplied air respirator.
Chemical safety glasses can be worn to help prevent contact
with the eyes.
PVC gloves can be worn to prevent skin contact.
Long sleeve shirt buttoned to the top and long trousers to help
prevent skin contact, with rubber boots.
Ensure clothing is washed and personal protective equipment
replaced or washed before reuse if contaminated. Wash
hands and face after handling and before work breaks when
handling food, smoking or toilet breaks, etc.

Dangerous Goods class
Store in a well ventilated, cool and dry area away from
incompatible materials such as organic solvents,
carbon sulphur, and other reducing compounds. Store
in a well ventilated area. Contact with moisture must
be avoided for it can cause handling difficulty. Ensure
machinery is cleaned thoroughly after use, do not
leave in machinery overnight.
Store away from oxidizing agent, alkalis, nitrates,
hypochlorites, metallic powders, strong acids,
permanganates, organic solvents, carbon sulphur, and
other reducing compounds.

SPILLS AND DISPOSAL
Minimising Spill / leak
Clean Up Methods
Spills should be swept and cleaned up immediately.
Prevent run off into water ways and drainage systems.
Avoid raising dust and eliminate all flammables and
sources of ignition
Depending on the size of the spill, clean up will involve
sweeping up and loading into a truck or container. All
material should be gathered up and shovelled into
approved waste containers for later disposal move
containers from spill area. Wash residue with water.
Keep out of sewers and storm drains. Review national,
regional and local government requirements prior to
disposal. Wash up spill with soapy water after initial pick
up is complete.

Store in a well ventilated, cool and dry area away from
incompatible materials such as organic solvents,
carbon sulphur, and other reducing compounds
Material assists combustion. May cause combustible
material to burn/explode. May become explosive upon
heating. Stable under normal conditions. Avoid contact
with strong oxidants, strong reducing agents, strong
acids, carbon, sulphur and organic solvents. Product
may decompose above 500 deg C emitting hazardous
decomposition products such as nitrogen oxides,
irritating and toxic fumes and gases of nitrogen.
Hazardous polymerisation has not been reported
Fire-fighters should wear full protective clothing
including self-contained breathing apparatus. Use water
fog/spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical, sand or
polymer type foam to extinguish fire. Use equipment
