Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance Job Family and Level: Associate Professor, Level 6 Contract Status: Permanent Hours of Work: Full time Location: Nottingham/Derby Centres Reporting to: Head of School The School The School of Health Sciences is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and aims to be a centre of national and international excellence in research, education and practice development. The School has approximately 300 academic and support staff and consists of the Divisions of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy. The School of Health Sciences provides a portfolio of undergraduate professional courses that are largely commissioned by Health Education England through Health Education East Midlands in order to meet NHS requirements for a workforce of nurses, midwives and physiotherapists in sufficient numbers and will create the necessary attitudes, values and skills to deliver quality both and social care. We also provide a range of flagship postgraduate education, Learning Beyond Registration and research training courses. Nurse education is currently delivered at both Derby and Nottingham Centres and the successful candidates would be expected to support educational delivery at both Centres. An office base will be negotiated with the successful candidates. The Role: The School is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor who has the potential to develop and lead large educational programmes within the Division of Nursing. The candidate will have extensive teaching experience and there will be an emphasis on the provision of high quality innovative teaching with course and programme development. The successful applicant will take responsibility for the quality of the design of courses and programmes and contribute generally to the development of teaching and learning strategies within the Division and potentially the wider School. Main Responsibilities 1. 2. 14. Have the potential to lead large educational programmes within the Division of Nursing. Lead nationally excellent research and scholarship in issues associated with adult Nursing including publishing in leading national and international and refereed journals in the field. Develop and sustain key strategic partnership collaborations with key stakeholders. Contribute to pre- and post-registration courses in terms of curriculum design and teaching delivery and supervise postgraduate taught and research students. Supervise and examine PhD students, both internally and externally. Set and mark coursework, examine courses and supervise and advise students. Monitor student progress and retention. To act as a line manager (including performance review) and personal mentor to peers and colleagues, where appropriate and provide expert advice and coaching to colleagues and students internally and externally. To resolve problems affecting the quality of course delivery and student progress within the Adult field, referring more serious matters to others, as appropriate. To contribute to the development of the teaching and learning policy in the School of Health Sciences (and to policy debate nationally) To act as an external examiner to Institutions and provide professional advice. To lead and develop internal (e.g. by chairing/participating in University Committees) and external relationships (e.g. external examiners/assessors and/or active researchers) to foster future collaboration. To generate new research approaches and contribute generally to the development of thought and practice in the field of Adult Nursing. Review and synthesise the outcomes of research projects and apply to research and teaching practice, where appropriate. To develop and sustain an on-going national reputation as a research leader, through original research work. Publish results of research through leading peer-reviewed national and international publications, and present or exhibit at national/ international conferences and other similar events. To investigate and develop new approaches, methodologies and techniques appropriate to your field of scholarship. To develop research initiatives to foster collaboration and generate income. 15. Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Qualifications/ Education Essential PhD/Doctoral level qualification in a health sciences related area. Relevant professional qualification and registration with relevant professional/ regulatory body (NMC). Skills/Training Ability to provide leadership to staff and students with skills in pastoral care and motivating staff and students at all levels. Significant negotiation abilities with strong team working and networking skills allied to a clear ability to engage with both NHS and PVI providers and Desirable PGCHE staff. Proven abilities to contribute to teaching and supervision from under graduate to post-graduate taught and research level. In-depth and breadth of knowledge of issues associated with Adult Nursing. Research portfolio, peer reviewed publications and successful research funding bids. Detailed understanding of current health policy and strategic influences. Experience Leading research and collaborative partnerships with other institutions and other external bodies. Delivery of high quality teaching and learning to a wide range of students. Statutory/Legal Decision Making i) Taken independently by the role holder; Teaching innovation and development Develop proposals for research projects To assist in preparing applications for new research funding. Planning the content and deliver of teaching. Developing new research collaborations. Applying for research funding – writing research proposals. Controlling the spending of some research budgets. Contribute to the University’s strategic planning processes. iii) Referred to the appropriate line manager by the role holder; Any items that involve major changes in research, teaching or administration policies.
