Unit: Composing and Performing a Piece of Music as a Group
This unit is designed to provide vocational skills in composing and performing for students working at Entry 1, 2 and 3.
Learners will gain an understanding of the how to compose musical pieces. The pieces of music will be based on a given
theme. The student will have the opportunity to improve their own skills in performing and will by playing the piece in
front of an audience, either as part of a group. They will also investigate the career opportunities in the music industry
relevant to composing and performing. They will also learn about health and safety risks and environmental issues
relevant to this area of the music industry.
The unit includes:
 Health and safety hazards relevant to composing and performing
 Careers opportunities in the music industry relevant to composing and performing
 Consideration of environmental issues within the music industry relevant to composing and performing
 Research how rhythm is used in different styles of music
 Practice rhythms and sequencing as a group
 Compose a short piece of music for a chosen instrument
 Perform a short piece of music to an audience
