Kyeemagh Chronicles Issue 3 Term 3 2014 FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome to NSW Education Week 2014. Lighting the Way to a Better World This year marks the 60th anniversary of the first Education Week and is an ideal opportunity to take stock and measure progress. Monday 28th July 2014 Come along to school on Thursday for the Annual Public Speaking Competition and Open Day. The children are proud to present their ideas and oratory skills, discussing their favourite topics. Stewart House bags will be sent home this week. Please place bags of clothing on the learning centre verandah. The bags must be returned before 21st August for collection. The tagline for the original, 1954 Education Week was: "Lighting the way to a better world". We have adopted that slogan and artwork for this anniversary celebration. Our school is celebrating in a very busy way! On Tuesday we have the visit to Kyeemagh by the Koomurri Group to present their educational “Joey’s Package”. The excursion to Observatory Hill is this Wednesday, therefore, if you haven’t already done so, please return the permission slip and money to your classroom teacher ASAP. Most children did not return their excursion bag to school after our last outing so please find it at home to use on the day, The organisers of this trip insist that students bring an Eco Friendly Lunch as described in the permission note that went home last week. Children should NOT bring pre-packed portions control packages, sweets in wrappers or drinks in throw away cartons with straws. We would like to thank Menai Wildflower Group and SITA nursery for their donation of plants to support us in celebrating National Tree Day for Schools Day. Due to the wet weather on Friday, most of the planting will be done this week. P& DIARY DATES: Friday 1 August – P & C Meeting Friday 8 August – Special School Lunch Sunday 17 August – Bunnings Sausage Sizzle National Tree Day High Tea: A delightful afternoon was had by all at our National tree Day High Tea! Thank you to everyone who attended or supported our event by purchasing boxes of baked goods. Congratulations to the winners of the silent auction and lucky door prize. Thank you to all those who helped with the preparation, setting up, and cleaning up: Gina and Bella, Adelina and Idalia, Bryan, Gulay, and Sharmaine, especially for her delicious cheesecakes and aromatic arrangements. The P&C would especially like to thank Elli Ryan for all her hard work organising the event, making the delicious sandwiches and baked goodies, setting up, cleaning up, as well as donating a voucher worth $120 for Elli’s Sweets. She definitely went above and beyond! Special School Lunches: On Friday 8 August, we will be celebrating the school’s 72nd birthday with the inaugural Special School Lunch. On offer will be Spaghetti Bolognese OR Spaghetti with Veggie Napolitana Sauce, both served with garlic bread. A note with further details will be sent home midweek. If you would like to order a meal for your child please complete the slip and return it, along with payment, to the red P&C box in your classroom by Friday 1 August so that we can cater appropriately. Learnscapes: Sharmaine needs your milk bottles! She is in the planning stages of a new vertical garden. For this project she needs clean 2L milk bottles, with lids on. Please rinse empty milk bottles and bring them in so that they may be repurposed. P&C Meeting: Our next P&C meeting is on Friday 1 August, after morning circle. Everyone is welcome to attend. Your input and ideas will be welcomed and appreciated! We hope to see you there! Bunnings Sausage Sizzle: Our first sausage sizzle will be held at Bunnings, Rockdale on Sunday 17 August. This is an important fundraising event for the P&C. If you are able to help out for 2 hours on the day, please see Gina or put your name down for a shift on the roster in the office. Many hands make light work! Multicultural Fair: This year’s big event is set for Sunday 21 September. We will be holding a Multicultural Fair at KPS! We are looking for stall holders, performers, food stalls and any other wonderful ideas that you may have! If you would like to be involved in the planning stages, or if you have any ideas to share with us, please email pandc.kyeemagh@gmail.com Working With Children Check: It is a requirement that everyone working with children have a current Working With Children Check. This includes parents volunteering at the school in any capacity. These checks are FREE for volunteers and can be applied for online, and completed at the RTA.
