Full time/half time STATISTICIAN
senior/junior
Ghent University invites applications for a full-time or half-time senior or junior position in
statistics dedicated to supporting research. We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues, eager
to train (young) researchers needing methodological and statistical input and to support and
collaborate in research projects. Good communication skills are a must.
Our ideal candidate has a sound and broad knowledge of statistics at both the conceptual
and applied level, a sharp mind, good organizational skills and a broad scientific interest. He
or she will spend 50% of the time collaborating on new research projects in a consulting
capacity and 50% organizing and delivering statistical and methodological training to a
variety of researchers.
The former happens within a team of colleagues and in close collaboration with professors
at Ghent University. The latter works from the same location as part of the inter-university
initiative FLAMES, Flanders Training Network for Methodology and Statistics. Flames was
launched to disseminate information and contribute to the methodological/statistical
training provided by doctoral schools from the five Flemish universities. It is fuelled by a
team of coordinators working at the various universities. Team members build a web based
support system, develop training materials for researchers in different disciplines and teach
modules at the different universities in Flanders .
Activities of the new member will likely include: further developing the informative website
(www.flames-statistics.eu), organizing summer schools in methodology and statistics,
providing customized training sessions and turning course material into more broadly usable
software solutions for research/teaching questions.
Initially, we offer a 1-year contract at a level appropriate for the skills and experience
brought by the candidate. This may be prolonged thereafter. We hope to fill the vacant
positions as soon as possible.
