GOOD PSYCHOLOGY Pain Outcomes Questionnaire Expanded Analysis Confidential Analysis for TCC By Lisa Samuel, Ph.D 7/23/2012 This document is private and confidential. It contains two statistical analyses of the data at intake and then both 6 months and 12 months. Frequencies, descriptive statistics and repeated measures t-tests are included. Additionally, the report contains graphical analyses using SPSS and statistical interpretations. Pain Outcomes Questionnaire Statistical Analysis Research Question: will the implementation of TCC’s coaching program affect those suffering with chronic pain using the Pain Outcomes Questionnaire as the measurement system. Null hypothesis: Implementation of the coaching program will not affect the total scores on the POQ Alternative hypothesis: Implementation of the coaching program will affect the total scores on the POQ. Method: Data was collected using the POQ. Measurements were taken before the coaching began with a total of 14 participants from intake to 6 month follow up and13 participants from intake to 12 months. Data from the POQ was entered into SPSS software. Descriptive statistics, frequencies and repeated measure t-tests were performed on both sets of data. Frequency data was performed on the entire data set (n = 14). The results indicated that there was a significant change in the POQ scores from with the POQ scores at 6 months (M = 42.6 , SD = 23.5), t(13) = 6.8, p < .000. The 95% confidence interval for the mean difference between the two ratings resulted in a reduction of 42 points on the POQ. Additionally, 7 of the 8 of the subscales were statistically significant which included Pain (p < .000), Mobility (p < .000), Activities of Daily Living (p < .000),Vitality (p < .000), Negative Affect (p < .000) and Fear (p < .000). Healthcare Visits was not statistically significant (p< .147) Using the rating scale from the outpatient POQ, these results can be interpreted as follows: After 6 months of coaching, the total scores on the POQ dropped from the 50-74% range of pain to 10-24% range. From a preliminary data analysis it was also noted that all the mean scores for all the subscales decreased. Paired Samples Statistics Mean Pair 1 Pair 2 Pair 3 Pair 4 N Std. Deviation Std. The results indicated that there was a significant change in the POQ scores from intake to 12 months (M = 29.8, SD = 17.8 ), t(12) = 9.4, p < .001. The 95% confidence interval for the mean difference between the two ratings resulted in a reduction of 59 points on the POQ. Additionally, all 7 subscales were statistically significant which included Health Care Visits (p < .02), Pain (p < .00), Mobility (p < .00), Vitality (p < .00), Negative Affect (p < .01) and Fear (p < .00). Using the rating scale from the outpatient POQ, these results can be interpreted as follows: After 12 months of coaching, the total scores on the POQ dropped from the 50-74% range of pain to 10-24% range. From a preliminary data analysis it was also noted that all the mean scores for all the subscales decreased. Paired Samples Statistics Mean Pair 1 Pair 2 Pair 3 Pair 4 N Std. Deviation Std.
