THE FACULTY Individuals and Societies is the umbrella term we have adopted for our Humanities Faculty. We strongly believe that all Humanities subjects can be identified by our students understanding themselves as individuals in the wider society in which they live. While we are all passionate about individual subjects, we are also keen that students understand the links between our individual disciplines so that they have a wider understanding of ‘Humanities’ and the world in which they live. In total, the Faculty is responsible for the delivery of: Geography History Ancient History Religious Studies PSHE Citizenship Health and Social Care Business Studies Social Anthropology Psychology Philosophy Economics ENRICHMENT The Faculty does offer a range of enrichment activities, from fieldwork opportunities to conference visits. The Faculty also runs a day-trip to Bruges in Year 7 (jointly with International Education and Communication) and has many members of the team as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Equally, there is a joint History and RS trip to Auschwitz in Year 10. However, this is an area that the Faculty are seeking to improve upon on a weekly basis. Applicants with a proven track record of extra-curricular provision would be encouraged to apply. CURRICULUM As a Faculty we strongly believe in internationally benchmarking our curriculum as we seek to be regarded as a truly world class Faculty. At the same time, we are passionate that our students truly understand themselves as individuals as well as their place in the 21st Century world. KS3 In Years 7/8 students follow the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). In this, students are taught to appreciate Geography, History, Religious Studies, PSHE and Citizenship as an intertwined subjects taught around a ‘Key Theme’. Over the course of these two years, students study 10 ‘Key Themes’ ranging from ‘Curiosity’ to ‘Competition’ to ‘Discovery’. In Year 9, students are discreetly taught Geography, History, Ancient History, and Religious Studies in order for them to experience what KS4 study in these subjects would be like. This also acts as a skills progression year to ensure students are ready and prepared to take on the challenges of their KS4 option choices.
