Join Chandler for after school arts enrichment classes this winter! Chandler Center for the Arts
will be offering unique classes for different levels and ages including: Kanti: World Music
Chorus with John Harrison, Theater Games with Nicole Conte Stevens of BarnArts, Ukulele
with Jenny Beaudin, and Storytelling with Sequana Skye. These teachers are some of the best in
Vermont, and we are honored they will be with us for this program. The 10-week session
(following the school schedule) will end with a public performance showcasing the students and
their newfound skills! To register and find out more about Chandler Center for the Arts, find us

Modeled after the successful Summit School of Traditional Music and Culture music program in
Montpelier, Vermont, Chandler expects to enliven the Esther Mesh (Upper Gallery) room with
ongoing youth education programs. In Montpelier, forty children are playing ukuleles and
singing at the Summit School program. After expanding to Middlesex, over sixty kids
participate in their after school music classes! Chandler hopes to see the same success at After
School Arts.
With the continual loss of arts education in rural elementary schools, enrichment programming is
of increasing importance. Chandler is honored to have masterful instructors for its After School
Arts program. We are delighted to offer Kanti World Music Chorus with John Harrison. Kanti
means “sing” in Esperanto, and singing is a universal language of its own. We will sing a wide
range of music from around the world and close to home. No experience is necessary, only a
desire to sing and an openness to experiencing the music of other cultures. The chorus is directed
by John Harrison. John is a former K-12 music teacher who has lead choruses for children and
adults for many years, in Vermont and beyond. John is perhaps best known for his Montpelier
based Gospel Choir, with at least 70 members and a number of annual concerts. He has also led
many Village Harmony (teen touring choir) tours, in the USA and in Europe.
Chandler's new education program also features beginning Ukulele, an accessible way to begin
playing music. The class is led by Randolph's Ukulele Players' founding member, Jenny
Beaudin. Ukuleles can be found, low cost, at Guitar Sam in Montpelier, and some loaners may
be available at Chandler. Barnarts is offering Theater Games with Nicole Conte Stevens. This
class is inspired by the wonderful work that Barnarts does in the Barnard community. In
addition to music and theater, Chandler is excited to offer a storytelling workshop with Sequana
Skye, of Cabot, Vermont. Sequana's initial creative experiences were as writer, director and
actor in stage productions in upstate New York. Since moving to Vermont in 2008, Sequana has
branched out into filmmaking as a writer, director, producer and educator. She and her team
were awarded third place in the 2014 Green Mountain Film Festival Film Slam for the film The
Time is Right. Sequana has participated in many creative opportunities in Vermont including as
a guest artist on the Arts Bus in Randolph, Vermont. Sequana recently received her MFA in
Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College and is currently a candidate in the MFA Film
Program at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
Chandler is glad to move in this direction, knowing that the impact arts activities can have on
children and families is immense. The classes are low-cost and high quality, enlivening the
building with inspiring activities for the youth. To register: Visit our website www.chandlerarts.org, fill out the registration form and pay online OR send a check and registration form
