One-Year Principal Agreement Form
September 2015 - June 2016
Agreement between Maryland MESA and the________________________________ School.
The Maryland MESA Program agrees to provide:











Comprehensive program administration
Managed field trips (as budget permits)
Role models, mentors
Exposure to careers in mathematics, science, engineering and technology
Provide information on summer programs
Information on scholarships and internships in STEM areas
Scholarships and recognitions
Advisor Workshop (as budget permits)
Access to technical professional development opportunities for MESA teachers
Access to local, state, and national resources involved in STEM efforts
Trips to MESA related regional, statewide and national events for qualified teams. First place
winning regional teams are expected to attend the state competition. If the team chooses not to
attend they must notify the MESA Central Office no later than one week following their
regional win. All original state team members are expected to attend the MESA National
Competition. Substitutes will not be allowed to participate at the national level. Team
members have one week following the state event to verify their participation.
Your School agrees to:










Provide a safe space for Maryland MESA meetings before, during or after school, and a place for
special meetings, 2-4 times monthly
Identify a Maryland MESA Advisor to facilitate the school program and report data using the MESA
database
Provide Maryland MESA advisors and students with the support needed to hold fund-raisers for
additional trips, supplies, etc. (as needed).
Designate a MESA guidance counselor or other suitable person to enter student grades (Math, English
& Science) for the first three quarters into the Maryland MESA Information Management System by
May 19, 2016
Use appropriate school system funds to cover the costs of:
 Supplies for mathematics/science/engineering contests, competitions and projects to include
flash- drives
 Substitutes necessary to allow advisors to chaperone students during field experiences
 Substitutes necessary to allow school coordinator (or designee) to attend quarterly
Maryland MESA Advisor Workshops
Promote rigorous course opportunities to all Maryland MESA students enabling them to complete
algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, biology, physics and chemistry prior to graduation.
Participate actively in Maryland MESA activities (school meetings, Maryland MESA Day, and
August Workshop). Teams must participate in at least 2 competitive activities to attend the
regional and 3 for state competitions. Only those participating in the activities will be allowed to
attend the state competition.
Acknowledge Maryland MESA achievements at your school whenever possible (daily
announcements, school newsletter, parent meetings, etc.).
Make the central office aware of any potential conflicts that prohibit student participation in
mandatory events at least one week in advance.
Follow guidelines for reporting of data as specified by central office. *Note: If deadlines for
data entry are not met then the school will not be permitted to participate in any activities.
When this occurs, privileges (fieldtrip transportation, participation in specific MESA activities)
will be suspended.

I have read and understand the requirements set forth by the Maryland MESA Central office. My school
plans to participate in the Maryland MESA fully during the specified academic school year in accordance
with this agreement form. I understand that an addendum to this form may be provided to me in
accordance with requirements set forth by my school district/region.
