GUIDELINES AND POLICIES FOR MISSIONARY RESIDENCE

1.
The purpose of this ministry is to offer housing and other aid to Southern Baptist missionary
families and to enrich the fellowship of our church through an association with the missionary
family.
2. Reservations:
a. Priority is given to Southern Baptist missionaries.
b. Reservations for the home should be made through the Missions Committee.

37203. Or email rus.roach@firstbaptistnashville.org.
c. Reservations of more than four years in advance will not be accepted.
d. Preference will be given to applicants who will be residents for no less than six months
and no more than twelve months.
e. In emergency situations the Missions Committee may consider leasing an additional
apartment if residence is being used.
3. Missionaries’ Responsibilities:
a. They are expected to be members of First Baptist Nashville while here and using our
residence.
b. They will be expected to give the church some time during the weeks of prayer for
missions.
c. They are expected to exercise care and take normal precautions in protecting the home
during their stay and reporting any needed major repairs to the Missions Committee.
d. It will be the responsibility of the missionary to correspond with the Missions
Committee as to the final details of their arrival and vacating the residence.
e. The missionary family will pay utilities.
f. The missionary family will have the responsibility of lawn, shrubs, and flower beds.
g. They are expected to leave the residence in readiness for the next missionaries.
h. Missionaries are asked to leave a representative momento item in the residence as part
of the permanent décor.
i. Pets are not to be kept at the missionary residence.
4. Church’s Responsibilities:
a. The house is to be completely furnished; including kitchen utensils and linens.
b. The house is to be provided rent free, exclusive of utilities.
c. Adequate insurance will be provided on the dwelling and furnishings and to include
$5,000 personal property for the missionary.
d. The Missions Committee will report the need for major repairs to the Property and
Space Committee for approval.
e. The Property and Space Committee is to take responsibility in insurance coverage, taxes,
major maintenance and working with Missions Committee to accomplish routine
maintenance projects.
5. Utilities Information:
a. Telephone: AT&T. Church pays basic bill. Missionary is responsible for internet and long
distance. Missionary will need to choose a long distance company. Call 1-557-6500 for
information. The telephone bill comes to the church where it is paid in full. A copy of
long distance calls is made and sent to the missionary. Missionary reimburses First
Baptist. To change the voice mail message…press *98 and follow directions.
b. Water: HB&TS Utility District, 794-7796. Bill comes to First Baptist. Missionary is
responsible for payment.
c. Electricity: Middle Tennessee Electric, 794-3561. The account is listed as First Baptist
Nashville, 108 7th Ave. S., Nashville, TN, 37203. Missionary is responsible for payment.
d. Gas: Atmos Energy Co. is the gas supplier, 1-888-824-3434. Downstairs heat is gas.
Missionary is responsible for payment.
e. Cable TV: Comcast, 244-5900. Missionary pays for cable if they want it.
f. Trash pick-up: is optional. Missionary may take their trash and recyclables to Sneed
Road behind the fire station. There is a light at Sneed. No charge if self-hauled. For
service twice a week call Music City Disposal at 794-3802.
g. Cottonwood Homeowner’s Association: First Baptist pays the monthly dues. There are a
number of restrictions on what can be built or placed in the yard. Call Rus Roach if there
is a question. Pool and use of the clubhouse, tennis courts, etc. are included in the
monthly dues. Missionary will need a photo ID for the pool – check with pool personnel.
h. SUMMARY: Church pays basic phone bill and Cottonwood Homeowner’s Association
dues. Resident pays long distance phone, water, electricity, and gas.
